You Don’t Have To Plan It All Out ~ Just Pray!

by | Jul 9, 2019

Acts 12: 1-5. It was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them.  He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword.  When he saw that this met with approval among the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also.  This happened during the Festival of Unleavened Bread.  After arresting him, he put him in prison handing him over to be guarded by four squads of four soldiers each.  Herod intended to bring him out for public trial after the Passover.  So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.

If you continue reading this chapter you will find that an angel showed up and walked Peter out past all of the 56 guards.  Peter went to the house where the church was praying and they didn’t believe the girl who answered the door that he was out there.  Of course, the other crazy thing is that Rhoda left him out there instead of bringing him in.

There are times we may still be lacking the faith we should have when we pray, but we still need to come together and pray!  Do not underestimate the power of praying together!  Sometimes we don’t have answers because we don’t pray.  (No, I am not saying you can just “name it and claim it” either, that is not what this is about). Our world is messed up!  There are people we need to be praying for!  There are people struggling physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, financially, you name it and we should be praying!  We need to be praying for our churches and pastors.  We need to constantly be praying over our children and grandchildren and the schools they attend.  The list is endless.

Clearly, in the situation with Peter, they must have had another idea for how God was going to answer because they didn’t believe Rhoda when she said he was at the door.  How many times do you plan everything out for God?  I know I seem to struggle with that.  He doesn’t need our help to figure out the best way to handle anything!  While they were probably expecting God to help Peter through the trial God was planning a miraculous rescue!  You are just called to be faithful in what God is telling you to do and pray, leave the details to Him to figure out.  Why is that so difficult for us to do at times?

Stop for a moment today and ask yourself if there needs to be a change in your prayer life. Ask God to show you if there’s something lacking.  Prayer is a powerful opportunity to move heaven and earth in our situation, so we need to take it seriously.  You don’t need to come up with some eloquent prayer, you just need to talk to Him.  Pour your heart out to Him.  Ask Him to give you the faith you need and to put your mind at rest that He has a plan!  Trust Him!  Expect Him to move and work on behalf of your prayers when you are praying within His will, in other words, praying for things that would line up with scripture.  God wants to hear from you!  He wants to hear about the good, the bad and the ugly!  He loves you and wants to have a closer relationship with you.  Go to Him today.  Find a prayer partner and pray together, whether on the phone or in person, but pray.  Let’s all start praying more for God to bring about miracles of Biblical proportion and expecting Him to do mighty things, trusting Him that HIs best is yet to come!
