Luke 11:1, Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.”
Are you satisfied with your prayer life or are you feeling as though your prayers are just bouncing off the ceiling? I am not sure we should ever be fully satisfied with our prayer life because I believe that we should always be growing in our knowledge of who God is and our love for Him and I believe as that relationship grows so does our prayer life!
Clearly this disciple who asked Jesus to teach them to pray felt that something was missing in their prayer life. He didn’t hesitate to ask Jesus, God Himself, to tell them what was missing in their prayer life. How about you? Are you ready today to ask God if there’s something you may need to change in how you pray? Now, let’s not get legalistic here…….. don’t create rules for your prayer life and don’t limit God by thinking that you have to word every little thing just so. I know that one of my issues is wanting an answer right now and sometimes I don’t just want strength or a need met for today, I want to know that it is taken care of for the next month. Sometimes I pray with more anxiety than faith, how many prayers do you think get answered with that mindset?
God wants you to come boldly with confidence in His character! He wants you to come with a clean heart, asking for forgiveness for any sin. He wants you to forgive those who need to be forgiven in your life. He wants you to trust that He knows what is best, including the timing for your answer. He has the answers and He wants you to trust Him to do what is best and right because that is Who He is!
Don’t settle for where your prayer life is! We live in a time where our world is in desperate need of Christians on their knees making a difference because we are boldly petitioning God to bring revival and change. Be intentional in your prayer life! Don’t treat God like He is just a version of an online store like Amazon. Spend time with Him! Ask Him what His heart is and what His dreams are for your life! Stop barking out orders for what you think He should do and ask Him to show you what needs to be done. We all want His best to come in our lives and yet are we willing to spend the time on our knees and in His word in order to know what that might be? God is good and He loves you and He wants to guide you into all He created you to be! Trust Him and don’t ever settle for what you know about Him today, strive to know Him more. Follow Him with your whole heart and then you can fully know that His best is yet to come!
Quote: From “Jacob the Baker” by Noah benShea (Great book) The answer pushed the boy to another question. “What if neither my heart nor mind can help me find the way?” And Jacob answered, “Prayer is a path where there is none.”
