Continue In Prayer

Luke 11:1  Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.”

There’s really no excuse to not pray about it!

I have used and I have heard so many excuses for not praying, everything from, not having the time to not knowing what to pray.  We allow ourselves to get distracted ~ I’ve never thought I was ADD until I sit down to pray!  I can find myself in the middle of some crazy daydreams when I realize “you know you are supposed to be praying about that, not daydreaming about how you would handle it or them if you were in charge!”  What on earth?  Here we have the most powerful tool in our lives sitting in our laps and we don’t take it seriously or we just straight up don’t use it.

I even went through quite a time when every time I would feel God prompt me to pray I would tell Him that I didn’t deserve anything from Him and that I would get someone else to pray about it for me because I didn’t really anticipate that He would want to answer me!  Wow!  If you are there, and you struggle with that, well let me tell you this, “on our own, none of us deserve anything from God, but don’t make light of what Jesus has done on the cross!  The blood of Jesus is the only thing that takes any walls down between us and God!  He loves you as much as He does anyone!  You are His princess!”  Here are some of the verses that I read this morning in part of my devotions and this was, yes, written for the Jews, but we can now apply it to ourselves because Jesus made the atonement for our sins so we are His:

Ezekiel 16:8-13, “…….. I made my vow to you and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Lord God, and you became mine.  Then I bathed you with water and washed off your blood from you and anointed you with oil.  I clothed you also with embroidered cloth and shod you with fine leather.  I wrapped you in fine linen and covered you with silk, I adorned you with ornaments and put bracelets on your wrists and a chain on your neck.  And I put a ring on your nose and earrings in your ears and a beautiful crown on your head.  Thus you were adorned with gold and silver and your clothing was of fine linen and silk and embroidered cloth.  You ate fine flour and honey and oil.  You grew exceedingly beautiful and advanced to royalty.”  That is who you are when you have accepted Jesus as your Savior!  Don’t take that lightly and don’t take it for granted!

How about the excuse: “I’ve been praying but nothing has happened!”  Then, if nothing has happened, why on earth would you stop praying?  Let’s remember the woman and the unjust judge for a moment:  Luke 18:1-8, Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.  He said:  “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought.  And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’  “For some time he refused.  But finally, he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!”  And the Lord said, “listen to what the unjust judge says.  And will not God bring about justice for His chosen ones, who cry out to Him day and night?  Will He keep putting them off?  I tell you, He will see that they get justice, and quickly.  However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”

“I don’t know what to say!” (Classic excuse) Really?  Are you sure?  I’ve tried that excuse too and the answer came back, “well, you certainly seem to have a lot to say to your closest friends!”  Ooooooo,  Hmmmm……. He isn’t buying that excuse anymore!  Pour your heart out to Him and stop making excuses!  How do you expect your relationship to grow if you are not spending time in prayer?

So, let me encourage you today to take some time to pray, start out small if you have to but set aside some time alone to pray.  Focus, focus, focus!  Everything you need to get done can be thought over after!  Focus on Him and just tell Him everything that is on your heart!  No excuses, just do it!  His best is yet to come!
