Don’t Stop Now ~ Keep Striving …

by | Mar 12, 2021

2 Peter 1: 5-9,  For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.  For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.  But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.

Don’t settle for where you are!  Strive daily to be more like Him.  Don’t forget all that He has done for you including forgiving you for your sin and adopting you as a son or daughter.  It is way to easy to become complacent with where you are spiritually because we are all so busy all the time.  Trust me, I get it!  If I didn’t set aside a specific time every day to spend time alone with God it would never happen.  I have been so busy lately trying to get our house ready to put it on the market I have had days when all of a sudden it was 5 PM and I was so busy all day I forgot to eat lunch ~ no wonder I was so hungry!  I make my time with Him the first thing I do in my day by getting up before everyone else.  I have my coffee and my breakfast while I have my time with Him reading, praying, and writing, and then I move on to the rest of my day.  It is too easy for my day to get away from me.  Maybe mornings won’t work for you, maybe you are a night owl ~ then do it before you go to bed.  Whatever you do, don’t settle for where you are because God has more for you!

If you take a look around at what is going on in the world there are very few of the attributes mentioned in these verses out there.  We must be the light that shines to the rest of the world, the difference God can make in your life.  The world teaches that those things are meaningless ~ where do you think that idea came from?  Satan has done all he can to lure people away from God and, mind you, he has done a pretty good job!  It needs to be our mission to show the world that what they are truly looking for can only be found in Jesus.

Don’t forget where you have come from.  When Abby and I were chatting yesterday I told her that when I look back over my life the times of greatest regret are those when I was not pursuing God and living for Him!  Those are the times when I made the biggest mistakes and overall made stupid poor choices that not only affected me but greatly affected my children.  The best times of my life, even though they have also been the times when I have experienced the worst storms and attacks from Hell, and the worst heartaches imaginable, are when I have pursued Him and have allowed Him to work in my life to make me more like Him.  It’s worth it!  They are also the times when I have experienced His closeness and His love, and His awesome sense of humor.  He is awesome and so worth it all.  Storms and heartache are going to come to all of us.  Would you rather be in the position of pursuing Him and having the fullness of His character in your to guide you through or would you rather become bitter and out of control.  I would encourage you to start today to strive to be more like Him ~ don’t hold anything back and then you can truly know that His best is yet to come!
