Psalm 127:3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.
Children in our lives are a true blessing from God, whether they are your own children or someone else’s, they are a true blessing and a responsibility. It is all of our responsibility to bring the children to Jesus. As it says in Matthew 19:14, Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” We should all be doing our part in a child’s life, whether they are our own or a niece or nephew, grandchild or a child who rides a bus to your church, trust me if you ask God for the opportunity to minister to a child he will open a door.
Now, one of the toughest times on earth as a parent will come when your children become adults. Just because your children are adults, it doesn’t mean you care any less! That doesn’t stop you from worrying about them and it doesn’t stop you from wanting to tell them, “This is the way ~ walk in it!” God has reminded me lately that no matter how old my children get, I still find myself having to give them back to Him. I find myself consumed at times with concern if they are traveling or if we have tornado warnings and God has to remind me that they are His and they are in the palm of His hand and for me to take my hands off! It is sometimes difficult to believe that anyone can love your children more than you do, but God does! I have had times that I have wanted to call a child of mine up and say, “What you are doing is wrong and this is how you need to handle it!” and God has ‘gently said’, “Janet, stay out of it and keep quiet, I’ve got this and it isn’t your place this time to say anything.” Ooooooo, Ouch! But, I don’t want to see my children ever learn the hard way and I don’t want to see them make mistakes that will cost them any heartaches or their children’s heartache. God knows what it will take to make the necessary changes in my children’s and your children’s lives and it is very important to get to the point where you take your hands off and give them fully to God and trust His love for them to be more than yours! That doesn’t mean there won’t be heartaches, but it does mean that He will see them through just as He does you and it means that He cares enough to be spending the time training them to be all He has created them to be! It is a tough thing at times to be a parent, but the blessings of watching God work in their lives make it all worthwhile. When God wants you to speak into their lives He will make it known and He will open that door.
I would like to encourage you to love your children where they are. They are no more perfect individuals than you are! That doesn’t mean that we condone sin, but you can’t fix other people including your children. If you know they are struggling then you know how to pray for them don’t you so pray and allow God to work in their lives. They have tremendous struggles and heartaches in their lives and they need to know that they have you praying for them and loving them regardless.
There are plenty of children in this world who need someone to love them! Take a look around today and see how you can make a difference in one of their lives. If you aren’t sure where to look, you can check out www.compassion.com and sponsor a child or 2. We have 3 that we sponsor and it is such a blessing! Trust God with your children, no matter what their age is, and know that He has a plan. The best is yet to come!
Quote: “I learned a great many new words that day, I do not remember what they all were, but I do know that mother, father, sister, teacher were among them – words that were to make the world blossom for me “like Aaron’s rod, with flowers.” It would have been difficult to find a happier child than I was as I lay in my bed at the close of that eventful day and lived over the joys it had brought me, and for the first time longed for a new day to come.” ~ Helen Keller
