Joshua 9:14-16, The men sampled some of their food but didn’t seek the advice of the Lord. So Joshua made peace with them and made a covenant with them to spare their lives, and the leading officials of the community swore to them. But three days later; after they had made the covenant with them, they heard that they were their neighbors, that they lived there with them.
Have you ever done that? It is like you are on a roll following God and doing what He tells you to do and along comes something that looks right and you jump in and you don’t take it to Him to get His opinion or approval! Been there! Just because something seems good or maybe is good doesn’t mean that it is what God wants you to do. Maybe down the road, He will, but for now, maybe there are other things He wants you to focus on. Just like in this case, they may not have paid a huge price in the moment but it was disobedience and it was going to be sort of in their face and a new responsibility for them. Just like Joshua though, we need to take those things and learn from them and move forward! Ask for God’s forgiveness and then get back to focusing on what He has called you to.
Learning to ask before we jump is all part of growing in our walk and trust in God! If we want His best for ourselves, our family and friends, and the world around us then we need to walk with Him! We need to base every decision on the Word of God. The level of our confidence and faith can be measured by spending time in and knowing the Word of God. The more you get to know Him the more you will trust Him and the more you will want His opinion for every big decision. The world is upside down and crazy, beyond anything I could have imagined and it is our responsibility to live a life that reflects God! We have the hope they need and they are looking for but if we don’t live any different than the rest of the world, how will they know? If you have been going through such horrific storms in life that you have felt like you are losing hope yourself I would just like to encourage you to pour your heart out to Him, turn on some praise and worship music that is focused on Him, and who He is, and spend some time alone with Him in His Word (If you don’t know what to pull up go to Psalms) and prayer. Allow Him to refresh you and heal your heart. He loves you so much and no matter where you are ~ He is there.
So, if you aren’t sure what direction you need to head in or something is weighing on your heart, whatever it is ~ take it all to Him and allow Him to guide you! His plan is always the best ~ we just need to trust Him!
