Psalm 78:1-7
My people, hear my teaching;
listen to the words of my mouth.
I will open my mouth with a parable;
I will utter hidden things, things from of old-
Things we have heard and known,
things our ancestors have told us.
We will not hide them from their descendants;
we will tell the next generation
The praiseworthy deeds of the Lord,
his power, and thew wonders he has done.
He decreed statutes for Jacob
and established the law in Israel,
Which he commanded our ancestors
to teach their children,
So the next generation would know them,
even the children yet to be born,
and they in turn would tell their children.
Then they would put their trust in God
and would not forget his deeds
but would keep his commands.
We can try to blame what is going on in the world on a million things, but the problem is the lack of the knowledge of God. We have to take responsibility for teaching the children, our children, and other children that God puts in our paths, but we must make the effort to teach them about God! You have to stop and think about how many hours a day children are being taught everything but God and allow that to motivate you to have more of a burden to teach them about God! I am horrified that it has gotten to a point where people are arguing about their right to expose their children to things that they shouldn’t even be going to as adults, it is so sad. So many people are so lost and they are looking for a way to fill that void in their lives in all the wrong places! They need Jesus!
You can’t think that just because you take your children to church on Sunday that that will be enough! You must make an effort to actually teach them. They need to see that you have made reading the Word of God a priority. Take the time, as inconvenient as it may seem to read them a Bible story or have devotions with them! It is sad, really, that we have become so busy that it could seem like an inconvenience to take the time to spend time in the Word of God with our children or grandchildren. It is so important! Now the place you must start in training them of course is to make sure you are growing daily yourself. Kids are smart and they will see through the “Do as I say, not as I do.” verbiage. Your walk with God will speak louder than your words.
The world is messed up because we have taken God out of everything and we have lowered our standards to a ridiculous degree! God is full of mercy and grace ~ yes, but He is still a Holy and just God who hates sin! If it was a sin back in Moses time then it is still sin today! God hasn’t changed His mind about sin, He just provided the way for us to have a closer walk with Him because He gave His son to die for that sin! He paid the price for sin, if anything that should make us think He probably hates sin even more because Jesus had to give His life for it! He loves us that much and He knows that our lives are more fulfilled and successful when we walk in that victory over sin. He never meant for us to embrace sin because He will forgive us! Our response to His grace, mercy and love should be to strive to stay as far away from anything that would displease Him as possible.
I would like to encourage you today to ask God how you can draw closer in your walk with Him and how you can be more effective in teaching children about Him! Ask Him to show you opportunities where you can serve Him. Pray for your children, grandchildren, children in your church, your pastor and his family, and your neighborhood. Pray for the parents, teachers, and administrators in the schools in your area. Pray for God to show up mighty in their lives so they will come to the full saving knowledge of Him! Be an example, shine your light, and look for ways to make a difference. We must not only pray but we must be His hands and feet.
