Stretching Beyond What’s Comfortable

Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Do you feel like there’s more ~ more that God has called you to do with your life?  I am not just talking about ministry here.  God put gifts and talents in every single person, and that is what we are called to use, not someone else’s.  Don’t look to what other people are doing ~ what are you created to do?  Whatever it is, when you do it for Him, it brings Him glory.  Take a look at Exodus 31:1-3. Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “See, I have called by name Bezalel, the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah.  And I have filled him with the Spirt of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,”  Bezalel had what we would call a “natural” understanding of how to do anything designing and creating with gold, silver, bronze, cutting precious stones to be set, woodworking and pretty much any other craft needed.  He didn’t give him the same gifts he gave Moses or Aaron, or Joshua.  So don’t lose yourself in what someone else is doing or what someone else may think you need to do; seek God and what He created you to do.

Once you recognize those gifts and talents God has given you, ask yourself, or maybe you have been…is there more?  Is God asking you to stretch yourself?  It is easy to snuggle into some comfortable position, but if you aren’t being stretched anymore, are you just sitting back resting in those abilities when you could accomplish more for Him if you allow Him to stretch you to that next level that somewhat terrifies you?  God isn’t going to call you to do something and then just drop you on your bum.  We all need to be stretching and reaching out for that goal!  I’m going to tell you right now ~ I am not a fan of stretching at all, it’s not comfortable, it’s not easy, and sometimes it hurts. I am not a fan, but I know that is where we grow, and I don’t want to miss all that God has for me to do. So, I will stretch to accomplish whatever He is leading me to, knowing, as this verse says, “He will strengthen me to do it.”

If you don’t have to rely on Him at all for what you are doing, then you probably need to be asking Him what’s next.  What more is there for you to accomplish for Him?  I am not saying get another job and work more; this is all about serving God with whatever you are doing.  Maybe it is an area of witness, is there more that can be added to your influence with the people you are around every day that will draw them into a closer walk with Him, or maybe they need to accept Him as their Savior?  I don’t know what it may be, but I do know that if you ask Him and seek Him with your whole heart, He will be glad to show you.  Is there more in you that you haven’t tapped into that God is speaking to your heart about?  I encourage you to go after it!  Let Him guide you and work in you to bring out all He created you to be!
