Psalm 91:1-2, He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”
He’s with you, He hasn’t gone anywhere, He hasn’t changed, He is faithful, and you are secure in His presence.
It’s easy to panic or become consumed with all of the stuff that you can’t do anything about on your own. We need Him, every second of every day, and in everything. In order to abide, though, you can’t put Him on a shelf somewhere and then pull Him back when things get rough, only to put Him back after things calm down. He wants you to abide, spend time, get to know Him better, and keep Him in first place. When He is first place, nothing can get to you without passing by Him, so you have the security of knowing that He sees and He will do what is best. He will use every detail you surrender to Him to work it out for something good that will bring Him glory in and through you.
Trusting Him to be your refuge and fortress can only develop by spending time with Him. How can you fully trust someone if you don’t really know them? Trust grows as you surrender every area of your life and every person in your life to Him. I am not sure why we think that if we cling to something or we don’t surrender our loved ones to Him, that they are better off. How does that make any sense, and yet so often we try to protect what we need to surrender to find His best, not only for us but for those we love. He loves you, and He loves those you love more than you are capable. He knows what is best for each of us. We need to trust Him more.
I encourage you that whatever you are facing, it’s not a surprise to Him, and it is no match for what He can do. Rest in Him and allow Him to do what only He can do in and through you!
