Blessings Follow Obedience

Genesis 22:15-18,  And the angel of the Lord appeared to Abraham a second time from heaven and said, “By myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies, and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.”

Obedience not only blesses God, but it also blesses you, and it can bless generations to come, just as disobedience displeases God and in the end will not bless you or generations to come. Abraham believed God when God gave him the first promise that He would make him the father of multitudes through his son Isaac, and that all the earth would be blessed through his offspring, so Abraham was willing to trust that no matter what God asked Him to do, God would fulfill what He promised, and Abraham obeyed God.

When God puts something before you to do, regardless of how menial or monumental it may seem at the moment, trust Him. He didn’t send Abraham and Isaac up the mountain alone; He was there. Abraham couldn’t see Him there, but He trusted that He was and that He would provide all they needed so God’s promise would still be fulfilled. Don’t look around for someone else’s approval or blessing on what you believe God has put in front of you to do; just follow God’s leading and pray for His direction. Just as God was faithful in bringing about all He had promised Abraham, He is faithful, and you can trust Him to be there for you. Remember Jeremiah 29:11-13, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”   If you are seeking God and His direction, then you don’t need anyone else’s approval. If you are a Christian, be careful not to get in the way of God using someone else and what He has called them to do, because at that point, it is God you are fighting, not the other person. The enemy will do everything he can to try to stop or discourage you from what He has called you to do by using other people to come against you, but just keep following God and trusting that truly His best is yet to come!
