Matthew 11: 28, “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Have you hustled for so long that you feel like your “hustle” got up and left?
There’s just so much these days to be and do, so much to navigate, pressures from every side that leave you feeling as though it’s impossible to ever measure up, let alone slow down. All you can do is wonder how everyone else seems to be doing it. It’s almost like being on one of those merry-go-rounds on the school playground, back in the day. It starts out promising to be so exciting and fun, and it gets going faster and faster until you literally find yourself hanging on for dear life, because if you let go…who knows where you may land on that playground, and it’s probably going to hurt.
I understand that for many, there aren’t a lot of other options. I was a single mom for a long time, and I remember working multiple jobs at different times, while still trying to keep up with my three children, school, the yard work, the house, and, as you know, the list goes on and on. What can you do?
If this is you, whether you are married or single, I encourage you to carve out time for yourself. You don’t have to be perfect ~ no one is, no matter what it may look like! We all have our limits and struggles. Remember Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law? He told Moses back in Exodus 18, “The work is too heavy for you to do alone.” He encouraged Moses to delegate some of what he was doing. If your children aren’t old enough to really help out yet, pray for God to help you figure out a schedule that works and schedule in time for rest as well. You don’t have to do it all alone; God wants to be a part of it all. He wants to help guide you.
If you hustle, hustle, hustle trying to do it “all” then you may not be leaning on God as much as He would like for you to. Do what you can, don’t neglect your time alone with Him, even if it’s 10 minutes, and ask Him to not only help you with your schedule, but also in trusting Him with the outcome. It doesn’t have to all be just on your shoulders. He is asking you to take it all to Him, letting Him do what only He can do, so you can find rest in Him.
