Genesis 4:6-7 The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. It’s desire is for you, but you must rule over it.”
Since the beginning God has given us the command to rule over the sin that is desiring to control us. We have a choice! We don’t “fall into sin” we walk into it. I don’t know of any time in my life before I did something wrong that I didn’t have the choice to do right. You know that feeling you get when you know you have to make a choice and you know the right thing to do ……… what choice do you make?
If we want complete victory in our lives we must rule over the sin that desires to destroy us. Satan’s desire is no different today than it was when he deceived Eve and no different when he pushed Cain to use his anger and jealousy to kill his brother, he wants to see you fail, he wants to destroy you by keeping you in bondage to you sin. You have a choice!
Remember when Jesus was talking to Peter and he said, “Peter, Peter, Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat.” Satan hates you and he fears what you may accomplish for God if you make the decision to rule over your sin so be sure he wants to sift you too. Think of how much better we could all serve God if we would get a grip on “that sin that so easily besets us”. What sin is holding you back from serving God on another level? Are there addictions that rule you, are you struggling with being faithful, do you have a problem with gossip, does your temper rule your day and those around you, do you cheat, lie or steal? Name it! Don’t overlook it any more, take control over it starting today! Why would you knowingly give Satan victory in any area of your life?
Cain was given a choice by God himself and so are you! Cain chose to move forward in his sin and his anger and it ruled him and destroyed him. God gives us warnings and He gives us that nudge every time to do what is right, it is your choice every single time; “to sin or not to sin” that is really the question! What are you going to do with this choice today? God is telling you once again to get a grip on this and do not allow Satan to have the victory and destroy you! You want God’s blessing on your life and yet what sin is it that He keeps telling you to control that is keeping you from it? It is your choice! Take one day at a time and begin each morning with a focused prayer to have God’s strength to rule over that sin in your life and don’t allow Satan another victory. Set your mind and determine in your heart to do what is right. Pray for God to help you to have the strength you feel you lack to rule over this today.
