A wife of noble character, who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good and not evil all the days of her life.
I know a lot of women hate Proverbs 31, but strange as it may seem it is my favorite chapter. I guess I see it from a different perspective. Let’s just start with these 3 verses for example. This wife is being praise for who and what she is! It isn’t easy to find a woman like her, one who can be trusted by her husband to look out for his household and to follow God so she will be a positive influence in his life.
I am a firm believer that yes, I know God ordained marriage for pro-creation, but I also believe that marriage is designed for 2 people to dedicate their lives to helping each other become all they can be for each other and God. It isn’t all about us and it isn’t all about just doing everything the other person wants! It is all about making sure that God is first in both of your lives so your lives make a difference for eternity! I once heard a preacher explain how our relationships work this way; picture your relationship with God and your boyfriend or spouse as a triangle, if you put God at the top of the triangle and each of you on the sides – the closer the 2 of you get to God, the closer you are together!
It takes 2 in order to make a marriage work and sometimes it takes one person to lift up the other or hold the other persons feet to the fire so they can grow. When it says in these verses that she will do him good and not evil that also means that she is looking out for him spiritually. Sometimes, in fact quite often in relationships, it takes the woman taking a stand to grow spiritually before her husband does, but once the man decides to put God first in his own life he seems to take the lead and will grow to be the leader of your relationship like he should. It isn’t easy to do these things, I understand especially if your relationship isn’t what it should be, BUT Satan wants nothing more than to have your marriage and the last thing he wants is for the 2 of you to benefit the other spiritually. If you want all you can have in any relationship in your life, the closer you get to God the better your relationship will be. You aren’t responsible for the other persons reaction you are only responsible for you.
