When The Storm is Raging …..

by | Nov 6, 2018

John 6: 20-21
But He said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” Then they were glad to take Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.

The disciples were in the middle of struggling in the storm, no matter how hard they were rowing they weren’t getting very far very fast. They saw Jesus but couldn’t really tell because of the storm that it was Him, so they were really afraid at that point. Seriously, what would you think if it were night time and storming and you saw someone walking on the water coming toward you?

Have you been struggling? Have you been facing overwhelming storms in life lately, not really getting anywhere no matter how hard you try? Sometimes that “thing that scares you most”, that leap of faith, that new job, that new move, whatever it may be, could be your answer. It could be Jesus heading your way. You need to have the faith that He has not left you in this storm alone, He loves you and He will guide you through to the other side if you will just follow Him and trust Him. God has a way of showing up at the most unexpected times, but He is always on time!

Once the disciples recognized Him and took Him into the boat, not only were their fears calmed about the storm, they were immediately at their destination. Once we recognize God for Who He is and that He is our answer and once He shows up and we take Him into our situation and struggle, we are often on the other side of what we are facing. If we don’t have an immediate answer like that though we can always rest assured that He is with us and He can and will direct the storm, He will always see you through, He will give you the strength and grace to get through anything you could possibly face. We all face storms in life that devastate and overwhelm but know that God is by your side and He will see you through.

We had some crazy storms come through Tennessee last night!  There were tornado sirens and reports of tornados touching down in the area and of course, we couldn’t see anything that was going on outside because it was so dark.  I know how it is to be in a “storm” in life that seems so dark that you just can’t see any way for life to ever be good again, but just like the storm we had last night those storms come to pass, they won’t last forever even though it may seem like it while you are in it!  This morning is a gorgeous day!  The sun is shining and the sky is a brilliant blue and I don’t see a cloud in the sky!  Look for Him in your storms and struggles today. Know that He loves you and cares about all that you are facing. You can know that this storm you are in will pass and God will bring you through better on the other side!  Trust that His best is yet to come!
