Proverbs 27:17, Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.
Who are you walking through life with? Are you surrounded by people who believe in you, people who help stretch you and push you to become all God created you to be and accomplish? Are you better for having been around them and are there days when they are better for having been around you? We are not called to walk through life alone, but it is important to choose wisely who you walk with. There are times when God may weed some people out of your life, and while that can be painful, remember it may only be for a season and the best thing to do in those times is to stay open to God’s leading and who He may be bringing into your life to bring you into another level of walking with Him. Don’t get so locked into what and who you know that you don’t allow God to do “something new” in your life and through you! Keep an open hand and mind toward God and allow Him to lead you in every area of your life.
We all have our days, believe me, I have had some when we need someone else to come alongside us, boost us up, and remind us of Who God says we are. Too often we stop there but it is more than that! You need to walk with friends who help hold each other accountable. While the world will do its best to beat you down, you need to be walking with other people who love you and are willing to boost you up and hold you accountable in your walk with God, in those seasons or days of your life. When you fully grasp that if you have accepted Jesus as your Savior then you are a child of God, He is the King of Kings, the God of all creation, He is more than words can describe. The more you get to know Him and understand who He is and the more time you spend with Him getting to know Him the more you will understand the life He has called each of us to live. It’s not just about us ~ it is all about Him because our lives should be lived with the purpose of becoming more like Him. He loves you so much and He wants to guide you in all you do. So remember whose son or daughter you are, think about who He is, straighten that crown, and behave accordingly. Let’s choose to honor Him in all we do and say.
It is important to be willing to be His hands and feet to those in your circle as well. It says in this verse, “Iron sharpens iron”, you need to be made out of the same “stuff”, that God-centered “stuff”, in order to help lift those up around you. If your focus is on you, there are a lot of people out there who can’t seem to see beyond themselves, you can’t serve God or anyone else. Focus on Him! Ask Him to help you to be His light, His hands, and feet to those around you so you can help them to become all He created them to be so they can reach out and help others become all He created them to be. Allow God to work in and through you to accomplish what only He can accomplish!
Let’s all take a look around today and see who God has or is bringing into our lives to be that “iron” in our lives. Ask God to help you be an encouragement to them as well. As much as it can be comfortable at times to try to go it alone and seclude yourself, we all need other people in our lives to hold us accountable and to help us stretch to become all He created us to be so we can fully understand that His best is yet to come!
