Don’t Allow Your Emotions to Make Your Decision

Psalm 119:105  Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

When it’s decision time what do you do?  Are you decisions based strictly on the Word of God or ladies, do you make your decisions based on your feelings or emotion of the day?  Life is full of decisions some much more important than others but whatever the decision is that we have to make it should never be out of line with scripture.

I don’t know about you but I have days where my feelings treat me like they are a used Car Salesman beating me down wanting a decision right now, because my feelings want a solution immediately so I am not uncomfortable and I can “feel” warm, happy and cozy.  Life is just not that way, not every circumstance is comfortable and there are times when God is trying to use those times to get us to grow in Him.  We can’t grow spiritually if we are focused just on what we feel, we need to be focused on Him and what He is trying to tell us instead.

Galatians 5:22 -23says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.  Against such there is no law.”  Well now, let’s face it, when my emotions are at a high and my hormones rage, I could be hard pressed to find any of the fruit of the Spirit among them if I allowed my feelings, hormones and circumstances to take over.  It isn’t easy on those days and unfortunately I have lost some of those battles, but it is very important for us to just stop for a moment, pray, praise God, turn on some good praise music, read our Bibles, call a good godly friend – do whatever it takes to bring our world back into focus where God’s word is shining on our way.  It is a choice and it is one that we often have to discipline ourselves to do in the heat of the moment but we can do it and believe it or not it will bring the peace and desired results a lot faster than allowing our emotions to create more problems by being out of control.

We all have things we are facing that are overwhelming at times and stressful, but the key to living the life we are called to live with God’s peace, love, joy, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control is to be walking directly with Him, staying in His Word and allowing Him to have control of our behaviors.
