Has God Been Making You Uncomfortable Where You Are

Psalm 105: 25-27
He turned their hearts to hate his people, to deal craftily with his servants. he sent Moses, his servant, and Aaron, whom he had chosen. They performed his signs among them and miracles in the land of Ham.

These verses are referring to the Israelites in Egypt. God has prospered them while they were in Egypt but that was not where He wanted them to stay, it was time to move on! He knew that in order to get them to move, He would have to make them very uncomfortable. They were content and comfortable where they were in Egypt until God turned the hearts of the people of Egypt against them so out of fear of the Israelites they made them their slaves.

Have you felt lately like maybe, just maybe God is calling you to do something different, that you have never done before, or to maybe even move someplace new? It may seem like a crazy idea because you are “comfortable” where you are, why would you do that? Sometimes God will start ‘rocking your boat’ in order to get you to not feel quite so comfortable so you will listen to His quiet prompting. Faith isn’t about seeing, it is about allowing God to lead you when you can’t see, knowing that He knows what is best and you are safe in His care! Change isn’t always fun or comfortable, but if it is being brought on by God, you can trust that the end result of that change no matter how difficult or uncomfortable is for a reason and that reason could even become your Promised Land.

I moved my girls to Tennessee 10 years ago and I was anticipating something wonderful! I was going to have the opportunity to do Youth ministry on a National level and I was moving to the Bible belt so it just sounded like the “Promised Land” to me! I should have known when my girls were sounding like grumbling Israelites that it was not going to be an easy road! Once we got settled in here, everything that could possibly go wrong, did! It has seriously been one battle after the next, but you know what? When God led the Israelites into the promised land, they had battles to fight, they had land to conquer, it wasn’t easy but they learned in the process to trust Him and to follow His leading! Some of our greatest growth experiences come when we are being led by God and things don’t go our way! Some of our toughest times struggling and fighting for that victory or Promised Land is where our greatest spiritual growth comes from. Spiritual growth rarely comes from coasting through life, trying to be comfortable. I am still fighting the battles here, sometimes it feels as though there are several of them all going on at once, but I am holding on to the fact that God is faithful! The best is yet to come!

If God is prompting you or if He has begun to rock your boat to get your attention, trust Him! Ask Him to lead you and give Him your all. There may be struggles that you will face, but you have to trust God that they will be for your good! He sees what you cannot see even where you are! The Israelites would have missed out on the Promised Land had God not made things rough enough for them to get them to move. They would never have really experienced all that He had prepared for them if they stayed. Trust God with everything He is leading you to or through that truly His best is yet to come!

This morning devotional has hit home with me. I now understand it’s my move on time according to God’s timetable and Wil. And financially, with God, where there is a Will, there’s a Way. Amen
