I Could Use More Faith Today…. How About You

by | May 17, 2015

Luke 17:5-6
The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” And the Lord said, “If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.”

Would anyone other than me like to have more faith? More often than not I seem to feel like Peter who got out of the boat to walk on water and then saw the waves and his fears replaced his faith. The disciples watched as Jesus did miracle after miracle and Jesus commented on the people’s faith and how the miracles took place because of their faith and yet the disciples were still feeling as though they were short on faith. I have seen God do amazing things in my lifetime and yet I still want more faith. To be honest, I don’t think we can ever get to a point where we couldn’t use more faith.

So, this morning I have read every verse I could find on faith to see just exactly what is it that I need to increase my faith. I don’t claim to have all the answers here but we need to start somewhere and it first comes with a choice;

We need to choose to have faith in God over whatever fears we have. Peter’s downfall came when he looked at the waves instead of Jesus and his faith turned to fear and he began to sink. How often do you start out believing and then your circumstances or fears take over and your faith seems to fall by the wayside? We must choose faith over fear!
The other thing we need to do is to ask God to “increase our faith” just like His disciples did. God will not withhold any good thing from us that will help us to be more like Him and to accomplish His will for our lives. Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:”

God wants to increase you faith, He wants you to be all that you can be for Him. He wants to show Himself mighty in your life and the lives of those around you. Seek God today in all that you do and He has promised to give you all the faith you need for your situation. Don’t allow Satan the opportunity to fill your heart and mind with lies. Hold on to the truth found in God’s word, He has promised to bring it to pass! James 1:6 says, “But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.”
