1 Samuel 17:29, And David said, “What have I done now? Is there not a cause?”
Is there “a cause” that drives you when it comes to helping or leading others? I know people who are driven to help the homeless, some who have started food pantries, Preachers who have stepped out and started churches, missionaries, organizations that provide resources and the list goes on and on. I know of one man who is a very wealthy motivational speaker who is consumed with providing meals for people in need because he experienced that as a child. What is the cause that drives you? Is there one?
The Bible tells us in Philippians 2:3-4, “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests but also for the interests of others.” So, while the world will push you to be motivated by getting all you want out of life, and there’s nothing wrong with taking care of yourself, don’t get me wrong because if you can’t help yourself how will you help anyone else? There is a balance we are called to. I have a tendency to give until I am hurting and that isn’t right either. That is why we must pray about what God would have us do. There are so many people in need, after the two major hurricanes that have occurred recently in the U.S. there are some major needs for people who have lost everything, or maybe it is your family that needs you to fight for the cause. There’s the fight for unborn children! Some are called to fight for political causes. God has given us a mission of sharing Him with those around us ~ that is truly a cause worth fighting for, there are just so many lost people out there who don’t know Him!
We need to ask God to give us a passion for what He has a passion for and for Him to show us what He would like us to focus on. Churches are always looking for volunteers in different areas of the church, allow your God given talents to be used to bless others at church, or make it your mission to visit lonely people in a local nursing home. Be the one who starts a backpack program in your church for those families who don’t have food on the weekends. Whatever it may be, just pray about it and ask God to lead you and open doors for you to be able to honor Him by not just focussing on yourself but by sharing His love by taking up a cause and serving Him.
Quote: “It’s not the things we get but the hearts we touch that will measure our success in life.”
