John 16:13-14, “When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will declare to you the things that are to come.”
So many people say that they are looking for “the truth” but unfortunately just like with love they are looking in all the wrong places. Truth is from God and just like everything else satan does his best to come against it. God brings truth, satan is the father of lies, God brings life, satan wants to bring death, God brings light, satan darkness, God is Holy, Just, Merciful, and Loving and satan is evil, cruel, destroying, and full of hate for all of mankind. So if you want to truly be guided by the truth, you can only find it with God.
When you accept Jesus as your Savior He gives you His Spirit, the Spirit of Truth. His Spirit is not just dwelling within us to give us “Supernatural Power” but first and foremost to guide us to live in a manner that reflects Him and draws others to Him. The Holy Spirit isn’t given to us to glorify us but to glorify God so the more we allow Him to speak to us and guide us and the less we try to assert our own ideas and agendas, the more others will see Him in our lives. The more full of Him you are the more you will be able to discern the truth. Have you ever had a check in your spirit about something? Maybe you were about to buy something but just before you did you just had a feeling inside that it wasn’t a good idea. Those moments are often the Holy Spirit guiding you. He doesn’t typically come shouting in, He gives you that check to maybe rethink that situation, purchase, trip, relationship, job, or whatever it may be. I have had this happen throughout the years of raising my children in many situations. It has kept one of my daughters from multiple abduction attempts, two of which the FBI got involved in. What if I chose to not listen? When the FBI arrived at one of the men’s houses that was trying to meet up with her at a huge Christian Concert that her Youth group was going to attend, he had rope, a shovel, duct tape, and several other things already in his trunk. God is so good, y’all!!!!
While that is an extreme example let me just explain the simple stuff because that is where it begins: As Christians in the U.S. right now we have so many opportunities to put listening and allowing Him to guide us into practice. All you need to do, really no matter where you live is hop on social media or if you don’t have social media you can apply this to anywhere you may go where you encounter other people who are frustrated, angry people who are bent on speaking their minds and lashing out with all of the hatefulness they can muster. When you feel that overwhelming urge to give someone a piece of your mind, put them in their place or maybe explain in no uncertain terms how and why they are wrong with as much brutality as they came at you with just stop for a moment and say, “Can I say this Lord?” If you get in the habit of asking for His thoughts and leading on any situation you will become more aware of it even when you aren’t asking for it. The biggest problem Christians have when it comes to being truly led by God is that when His Word, plans, and opinions don’t seem to fit He gets shut down. If you “quench” the Holy Spirit by not listening when He convicts you then He doesn’t just pop back in when it is convenient for you.
This is so important that we learn how to allow Him to speak the truth to us and through us, are you open to His leading even when it may be uncomfortable or at times not popular with some people? There’s a price that is paid in order to grow in our walk with Him because we cannot do and be all we can be unless we are full of Him. Years ago I poured my heart out to God telling Him that I didn’t want to miss anything He was trying to teach me or anything He had for me to do because of things I believed, or things I thought I wanted and what I have learned from that day on is that in order for Him to do in and through me all He has planned there has to be more and more of Him and less and less of me. Think of it this way; If you and a friend were going to hop in a car and drive across the country but you both had plans mapped out for how you were going to get to your destination, how well would it work to use your plans one day to take a northern route and your friends plans the next day so you had to find a route to head south to that route and back and forth every day, how long do you think it would take? God knows the best route to lead you into all He has for you.
Keep Jeremiah 29:11-13 with you, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” His plans are always best. He loves you beyond what you can fathom. Seek Him with everything in you because there’s just no better place on earth to be than in His presence and on His path! You can know the truth about any given situation if you allow Him to guide you and you can walk in His confidence. As crazy as the world is getting we must guard our hearts and minds with the truth of God and His Word!
