John 8:12, Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
The wonderful thing about God giving us His Spirit when we accept Jesus as our Savior is that His light is there to guide us and it is also there to draw others to Him. My Complete Jewish Study Bible (translated by Messianic Jewish Rabbis) says, “I am the light of the world; whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light which gives life.” It is His light and only His light that gives life ~ eternal life and He has given it to us so we can be used to draw others to Him and it gives us light in this dark world so we have the answers for how to live. His desire is not for us to be groping around wondering what to do in the darkness, but to be filled with His hope, joy, love, mercy, grace, and self-control!
He wants to give you understanding and answers to your prayers and questions. His answers are found in His Word and spending quality time with Him. Ask Him what His dreams are for your life. He wants to fill you with hope so other people who have no hope will be drawn to Him. Life here on earth is hard, there’s no doubt about that but He doesn’t want us to live as those who have no hope. He also doesn’t want us to live to fit in, we are called to be set apart and different so He can be seen! We need to strive to be like Him, that needs to be the most important thing in our lives.
Think about King David for a moment, that man was obviously in touch with his feelings but in a manly way. When you read Psalms he clearly had no problem going to God and pouring His heart out in a respectful way, praising God, condemning his enemies and depressed one minute, and singing and praising God the next! The key is that he always sought God with whatever he was feeling! He knew God had his answers. When he sinned he went to God, when he had victory he went to God, when he was happy or sad, he always went to God! That is exactly what we need to do! Take it to Him and ask Him for direction and to fill us with every single fruit of His Spirit so we can live a life that honors Him and draws other people to Him. There is no other purpose for our lives than to live them for Him in a way that will help more people want Him in their lives. So many people have no idea that God loves them. How will they know if we don’t show them His love? We need to pray for God to fill us every day with His heart for other people!
Have you put your yes on the table? Are you open to His working in and through you to live a life that will make a difference? It isn’t easy, He never said it would be, but it will be worth it all. He loves you and He has a plan ~ the only question He has is, “Are you ready to fully follow Him and that plan for your life?
