This Should Always Be On Our Minds

by | Jun 4, 2025

2 Peter 3:1-12, Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking. I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through you apostles.

Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ He promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” But they deliberately forget that long ago, by God’s word, the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters, also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word, the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.

First, understand this:  during the Last Days, scoffers will come, following their own desires and asking, “Where is this promised ‘coming’ of His? For our fathers have died, and everything goes on just as it has since the beginning of creation.”  But, wanting so much to be right about this, they overlook the fact that it was by God’s Word that long ago there were heavens, and there was land which arose out of water and existed between the waters, and that by means of these things the world of that time was flooded with water and destroyed.  It is by that same Word that the present heavens and earth, having been preserved, are being kept for fire until the Day of Judgment, when ungodly people jail be destroyed.

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.

Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives s you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming…

What are we doing?  How are we living?  We need to be passionate about living lives that will draw other people to Him.  Don’t join in the anger they are already experiencing.  Stand for what the Word of God says.  Don’t be complacent ~ not in any area but especially in your walk with God!  Look around, who do you know that needs Jesus?  I am certain there are endless numbers around you just as there are around me.  I have said before, “Be different” even on the level of kindness.  Treat people the way you would like to be treated.  Something as simple as getting to know the names of people who work at a business that you frequent is a long lost kindness ~ start noticing.  I have seen people lash out at an employee over something that the employee had no control over and that is ridiculous!  If you want to be angry about something, be angry about the sin that is destroying people’s lives but remember it isn’t people you are fighting (Ephesians 6:12-13). Fight for what’s right and for the children in your nation! Pray for people you know that need Jesus and for God to open doors to be able to share the Gospel. Live a life you won’t be ashamed of when He comes because you never know how soon that day may come.
