Psalm 89:20-24, I have found David my servant and anointed him with My holy oil. My hand will always be with him, and My arm will give him strength. No enemy will outwit him, no wicked man overcome him. I will crush his foes before him and strike down those who hate him. My faithfulness and grace will be with him; through my name, his power will grow.
As we know David was a man after God’s own heart and we can see time and time again how God saved him from his enemies and blessed him. Today though as I was reading my Bible I thought about all of these types of promises God gave David and how much David always and I mean always trusted God! He trusted him on mountaintops, in valleys of the shadow of death, when God disciplined him, and when God blessed him, but as you read all of those stories of David’s life you see all of his struggles. There were people who wanted to kill him. His own family looked down on him. That man went through a lot and yet he believed God and His promises.
I know ~ you know that already, but stop and think of how long it was between being anointed to become king and actually taking the throne as king! Stop and think about how many times David found himself running for his life and hiding from his enemies!
Where were the promises of God? They were still there! David trusted God and God’s timing. Yes, that didn’t stop him from pleading his case with God and asking God to step in quickly and not delay in taking vengeance on his enemies. (Side note: There was nothing wrong with David asking God to rid him of his enemies ~ when his enemies were coming against him they were really coming against God and His anointing and plan ~we wrestle not against flesh and blood…. Satan is always out to fight God’s plans). But here’s the thing, it didn’t happen overnight! We live in such a rush these days that we expect God to seemingly “hop to” and that is ridiculous. Believe me, I have things I have been waiting a long time for that I wish would have happened yesterday but when they don’t what do we do?
God’s plan and timing are always perfect so while we may plead with, “Please don’t make me wait any longer” we don’t know what He knows and we must choose to trust Him and His love for us and for others that His plans affect. If you look at verse 24 above God says, “My faithfulness and grace will be with him; through my name, his power will grow.” God is faithful! You are never alone if you are His child and seeking His face He will guide you. If you are not His child you are missing out on so much, ask Him today to forgive your sins (we all sin…) and to be your guide for all you do throughout the rest of your life! God loves you so much and there is a purpose in the wait, ask Him what it is; is there something you may need to learn? Sometimes the wait has to do with the work He is doing in someone else’s life, but trust Him. He hasn’t forgotten, you are not being overlooked. Spend time with Him. Get to know Him more so you can understand His love and then you will trust Him more!
