Align Your Focus With What is Really Important

Proverbs 31:30-31. Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.  Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.

What are you striving for?  As a woman of God, what is your main goal today?  Are you worried more about how you look than you are about allowing God to shine through you?  Last night Abby and I were watching “Anne of Green Gables” and at one point Abby said that she agreed with Anne, she would rather be smart than pretty if she had to make the choice.  Then Abby went on to say, “especially with what is considered beautiful today because that can get you in a lot of trouble!”  There’s a lot of wisdom in what that 13 year old said.  Be careful what “beauty” you are striving for.  Seek godly wisdom!

Psalm 111:10 says, “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom:  a good understanding have all they that do his commandments:  his praise endureth for ever.”

Do you feel as though you are in charge of your day or do your days seem to run you over?  I am tired of feeling as though, life is going on without me on some days and I still haven’t accomplished some things that I know I need to tackle.  With everything most of us have on our plates, we have to be women who are organized.  Satan loves to rob you of anything you aren’t taking charge of whether it is your finances or your sock drawer, and one of his favorites is stealing your time!  I have been a bit lax lately while Bill was home for a couple months, thinking it wasn’t a big deal if I didn’t get up at exactly 5 or 5:30 to read and write because I “figured” I would relax a little too while he wasn’t working.  That was not a good idea because I got out of the habit of structuring my days, if you have a husband, you know that can be difficult if they are around all day anyhow.  🙂  When they have schedules that take them out of town and then they are home for months your schedules go back and forth so it takes adjusting which isn’t bad, but  you have to be intentional in your process or you can become a mess in the process.  I have to plan out my days, that is the only way I seem to accomplish anything.  When I don’t write out what I am needing to get done, I get nothing done!  Sometimes even when I have written it all down, if I am not careful I can get to the end of the day and find my list for tomorrow is going to look very similar to today!  So, where do we start?  We start by remembering that we are not in this alone!  God promises to give us the wisdom to do what we need to do, if we ask and He will guide us.

I know a lot of women hate Proverbs 31 because somehow she seems too perfect.  Listen, here is a little side note for you ~ if she was as wealthy as it appears she was, she had maids, ok?  She’s not a threat!  So, let’s see what we can learn from her for just a moment.  One of the first things I think of when I read this is that she had to be very organized!  She was a hard worker, but she was intentional in all that she did, she took charge of her time, her household and her money!  That is where I want to be!  I want to get organized and take charge of my days and my finances.  We can all hire someone else to organize those things for us but we will end up back in the same place if we don’t learn to do it ourselves!  Maybe you hate organizing, yeah……. there really isn’t any way around it.  You could have someone who is good at it come help you, but you have to have your hands in it too in order to train yourself to keep it that way.  It is just like teaching your children to clean their rooms:  if you keep cleaning it for them, they will never learn to clean it or keep it clean.  I hate organizing financial stuff anymore because I hate looking at mistakes I have made because then it seems I struggle allowing Satan to beat me up over them instead of seeing today as a fresh start.

Don’t allow Satan the opportunity to beat you up and keep you from making the changes necessary today to get you organized!  Yesterday doesn’t matter!  Put all the mistakes behind you, all the could’ve, would’ve, should’ve’s and move forward!  You can’t change the past but you can start creating a new future!  You can cringe if you want over past mistakes but don’t allow them to keep you from making right choices today to get on track.  Dive in!  You will feel so much better after you get things on track.  It will make your life easier and you will feel so refreshed and empowered.  Start with that thing that you least want to tackle because it will empower you to do the rest once you have that done!  You can do it!  If you need instruction on how to organize your house or your finances here are a couple books to help:

“Messy No More” by Sandra Felton ~ Helps you organize your home.

Here’s a website to help you organize your finances!  Dave Ramsey has a great program and you can organize all of your finances online, you can even connect your bank accounts in order to keep track of everything ~ check it out www.daveramsey.com

Whatever it is you need help with today, take the time to get started on it!  Don’t waste another moment, feeling defeated.  You can do it!  Don’t buy satan’s lies that will hold you back from being all you can be!  The best is yet to come!
