Psalm 51: 10, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”
Whether you are having a great day or you have had it and you are frustrated with your situation, the people, your job, your marriage, your finances, or maybe waiting on God has become an overwhelming challenge, I would encourage you to pray this prayer! What better way to spend your day than to be saying, “Create a clean heart in me and give me the right attitude to honor you.” I especially make a point of praying that when I don’t really feel like it because I feel my attitude is justified and I’m not really sure I want to let go of what’s bothering me, but let me tell you clinging to your attitude instead of God will make for a miserable day.
Holding on to a bad attitude or anger will just make you more miserable and it will block you from all that God has for you today because you just won’t even be able to see it. Negative thoughts and attitudes will block you from being able to focus on anything else. God has a plan ~ trust Him and His plan. I find that turning on some praise and worship music has a tremendous effect on my attitude. Praising God will remind you of who He is and all He has done, and all He has promised to do. Satan will do his best to keep you focused on the problem or frustration at hand, so you will have to get intentional to block those thoughts out throughout your day! Don’t allow him to beat you up and feed you lies or the what-ifs! God loves you and wants to walk beside you through the good and the bad. Don’t let satan rob you of that! God wants to fill you with His confidence and joy for your day and satan wants to rob you of confidence and joy. He wants to make you doubt and feel as though everything is hopeless, but the Word of God tells us that things are never hopeless when we put our faith and trust in Him.
If you are ill today and you are wondering how it will all turn out understand that this verse applies to what you are facing as well. “Renew a right spirit within me”, in other words, “help me not to doubt and help me to have the faith and confidence that you, God, are in control and you will guide me and do what is right and best if I follow your leading and cling to my faith in you!” (Side note: if you are ill, I would also encourage you to double-check to see if you may need to adjust what you are eating. Our bodies can only fight off illness with the nutrients we feed it. We cannot fill ourselves with junk and expect our bodies to function the way God intended them to. There is a book called “The Hallelujah Diet” and it explains how thousands of people have even fought off cancer by changing their diets.) Ask everyone you know to be praying and focus on Him. Put your prayer request on our prayer board too so we can all be praying for you as well.
God wants to help you have a better day and it may have to start with your praying that simple prayer. Ask Him to help you focus on Him and to have the faith you need for any and every situation you may face knowing that then truly His best is yet to come!
