The wisest of women builds her house, but folly with her own hands tears it down.
Ladies we possess more influence and power in our homes than we (or maybe even our spouses and children) would like to admit. It goes back to that old saying, “if mamma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy!” We have the power to build our homes and the power within our hands to tear it down, what choice are you making?
I am told often that I am a “strong” woman, I am not so sure I always feel that way but I do know that with that comes strong emotions, strong opinions, strong attitudes and a bit of bullheadedness. Sure, when something needs to be done that can be great but on the other side of things God has had to really work on my attitudes when those strong emotions kick in and let me tell you that when hormones kick in as women our emotions are on speed dial and if you add a strong attitude with that it is like a locomotive headed down the tracks just looking for someone to run over!
We really do carry the weight of the attitude of the home on our shoulders ladies, good or bad. It is up to us to do our best to maintain a godly spirit in our homes. I have found that it begins with prayer and time in the Word, without that it is impossible to have a godly peace in our homes. Now, don’t get me wrong a crabby husband and or a child with attitude can certainly rock the house but we still need to work on being the godly influence in our homes that God has called us to and He will bless your efforts and bring godliness back into your home because of it. Obviously the attitude of a child is a bit easier to straighten out than the attitude of your spouse because you can discipline a child. (I am strongly against “disciplining” your husband by withholding things from him, that is wrong according to scripture).
When your spouse’s attitude is disrupting the home what do you do? I know our first reaction is usually to either retaliate or to pray that God will somehow slap a knot on his head for us, but that doesn’t bring peace to your home! Pray for him, ask God to be gracious in His dealing with him and to bless your home and your spouse. Pray for God to be the head of your home and ask Him to bless each of you with a right spirit. Take one day at a time. Speak blessing and not cursing over each member of your household today. Ask God to show you any attitudes that you personally may have that need to be adjusted and for Him to give you a humble spirit to deal with it.
Ladies, let’s start today to bring peace and encouragement into our households. We can either build it up through positive influence, prayer and time in the word or we can tear it down with our attitudes, negative thoughts and words and our lack of time with God. It is a process and it takes time but God promises to bless us when we press in and pursue Him with our whole hearts. Let’s be the godly influence that we can be starting today in our homes, you will be amazed at just how far that attitude will spread.
