Are You Feeling A Bit Weighed Down

Matthew11: 28-30,  “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your soul.  For my yoke is easy and my burden light.

Sometimes when we are overwhelmed and weary it’s because we are trying to do it all ourselves.  God wants you to bring everything to Him and He wants to walk with you and He will carry all of that stuff that is weighing you down.

It’s not always that there’s something wrong, sometimes when you are on a mountaintop, you can still become burdened and weary of it all because you have either taken on too much or you are trying to do it all in your own strength.  Take some time to inventory what you are doing and allow God to show you if there are things that need to go.  If you are concerned that it won’t get done if you don’t do it, take that to God as well and ask Him to bring the right person forward to do it.  Sometimes other people don’t step up because they see that it is already being done so they don’t feel needed.  Don’t rob them of the opportunity by taking it all on yourself.  I sometimes find myself doing it all because I feel it is easier to “do” than “explain” and that is just wrong because how do you expect them to learn if you don’t teach them?  My Dad used to teach me the craziest things sometimes as a little girl.  I remember him teaching me how to measure things like paneling, drywall, or boards so it would fit perfectly into the space, so I took his leftover materials and went outside and insulated and remodeled the inside of the dog house.  Too funny and yet the point is; he took the time to teach me no matter what he was doing.  I learned so much from him.  There are times to do and there are times to show someone else, so ask God to show you which he would have you do.

Let’s face it, there are storms in life that will run you over and leave you feeling overwhelmed and burdened beyond anything you ever thought possible!  I get it!  Just like weather storms, there are times they just seem to come out of nowhere!  I will never forget the “storm” that hit here that took Abby and I by surprise because one minute it was partly cloudy outside and I was watching the storm that was north of us and the next minute I couldn’t see out the window because of the storm.  It was crazy because we didn’t even see it coming and there are storms in life that have hit me the same way!  Life is full of surprises, but nothing takes God by surprise.  He knows all that you need in order to see you through and He wants to carry that burden for you.

God didn’t create us to walk through life alone and there are times when you feel that you need people the most that they aren’t there, but He is always there and even though you may not physically see Him, there’s no one better to walk with!

If you aren’t feeling weary or burdened today that is fantastic.  Take a look around and see if there’s anything God may be calling you to do.  It may be as simple as having other couples or single parents over for dinner.  Maybe your young pastor and his wife could use a date night, so maybe volunteering to either pay for a babysitter or going over to sit with them yourself would be a huge blessing to them.  If you ask God, He will be happy to show you anything in your life that either needs to go or be carried by Him, or maybe needs to be added.  His desire is for you to be able to “walk and not be weary, and run and not faint”.  Talk to Him about it and allow Him to work in and through you in a way that leaves you refreshed.  He loves you and truly His best is yet to come.
