Are You Striving To Be Like Him or Comfy Where You Are

Romans 6:11-12
Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.

As Dick Nogleberg once said, “If what you believe doesn’t affect how you live, then it isn’t very important!”

Have you reached a level in your spiritual life that you are comfortable with? Maybe you have reached the point where you just don’t really feel as though you need to work at it any more? If so, there is a problem! We always need to continue to strive to be more like Him on every level, there is just nothing more important than continuing to strive for a closer walk with God.

I had a friend ask me one day years ago, “If Christianity is true and if it is really something worth believing in then why aren’t Christians as passionate about their beliefs and why don’t they fight for what they believe in like other religions do?” Her point was that Christians do not seem to take Christianity very seriously. So many walk and talk as they please because after all, “we live in the day of grace”. We must remember that God is above all else a Holy God! There are way too many Christians walking around living double lives! There are abusive husbands that are horrible at home and yet ever so perfect in public, there are spouses who are cheating on their spouse and yet seem to have the perfect relationship, there are wives who show zero respect for their husband to the degree that she will tear him apart until he has no self esteem to be the man he is called to be, there are some who cuss like sailors until the preacher comes by, there are sexually immoral people and the list goes on and on and that is just in the Christian community. We may live in a day of “grace” but we are called to honor God in all that we do! This is so sad ~ there is so much more to have in our walk with God, why would anyone choose to miss out on it?

Maybe you aren’t living a double life, but maybe you have just found that you have become “comfy” in your walk with Him. Maybe it is time to reach out and find something to do then, to reach others. Maybe it is time to start a Bible study, or maybe you could begin taking those single Moms you know out for lunch, I don’t know what it is, but find something.

If we are to be truly alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord then we need to continuously strive to be more like Him, it is then that we will find His best!
