Believe Him For More and Grab More Than Just A Few Jars!

by | Mar 1, 2020

2 Kings 4:1-7,  The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord.  But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.”

Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you?  Tell me, what do you have in your house?”

“Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.”

Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars.  Don’t ask for just a few.  Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons.  Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled,  put it to one side.”

She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons.  They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring.  When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.”

But he replied, “There is not a jar left.”  Then the oil stopped flowing.

She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts.  You and your sons can live on what is left.”

How much will you believe God for?  What she and her sons would have to live on after the debts were paid would appear to be based on how many jars they gathered.  Do you think there was maybe a hint of disappointment when there were no more jars to fill?  It’s hard to say, but clearly they gathered enough to pay off the debt and have some leftover.

I think too often we sell God short for what He wants to do in our lives and the lives of those around us.  We toss aside the fact that God is the same God, yesterday, today, and forever!  The same God that provided more than enough for this lady is the same God you are going to today with whatever you are facing.  Are you going to grab just a couple jars because you don’t want to be embarrassed to believe for more or are you going to believe that God sees, He cares and He wants to do exceeding abundantly more in your life?

What are you facing today that you need God to provide in a miraculous way?  Are you following Him with your whole heart?  Have you done what you can and what He has asked you to do?  Have you asked Him to give you a verse or something to confirm that He’s working on it?  Maybe this devotional is His confirmation, you will know in your heart.  God wants to show Himself mighty in our lives but we must choose to believe Him for it and ask Him to remove any unbelief and replace it with the faith we need.  I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to get to Heaven and have Him say, “Oh, there was so much more I wanted to do through you and so much more I had for you in the way of blessings so you could bless others……”.   I want Him to pour every bit of Himself into me and all He has called me to here on this earth so He can use me however He chooses to.  So, no matter what I am doing, whether writing a Bible study, selling make-up and skincare or helping serve meals or cleaning the church, or reaching out to the homeless or even walking through the grocery store, God is revealed to others.  The world desperately needs to see His love and there is no “small service” when you are doing it for the Lord!

He sees.  He knows your name!  He has seen every tear!  He knows what lies ahead.  He wants to walk through this life with you and He wants others to see Him through you!  He will provide more than enough for all He is calling you to do!  Dig deep into His Word and recognize that the God of the Bible is the God you serve.  He has not changed!  He loves you and He wants you to believe Him for more!  So let me encourage you today to grab more than just a few jars ~ believe Him for more!  His best is yet to come!
