Choose To Walk In His Light

1 John 1:5. This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

Have you ever had a “dark day” or found yourself in a “dark place”?  Let me explain:

Dark days can come if you are living in open rebellion or maybe a loved one is living in rebellion.  You can feel the darkness of the day because there is no peace about everything that is going wrong in your life.  We can go through struggles in life and still have God’s joy and peace because He is walking with us through it, but when you are rebelling it is quite possible He is leaving you to walk through it alone and if He isn’t present you can certainly feel the darkness!

A dark place, to me, is a place where the people don’t know God.  When I rode through the slum area in Nairobi, Kenya, with the Compassion International team I came to realize how dark a place can be.  It was the longest ride I have ever been on and yet I don’t think we traveled over 5 miles!  It was so sad because those people are so lost.  Where do they find their hope?  Who do they go to when they are hurting, lost, destitute, starving…………….  We were told to not even appear to be using a phone or camera to take a picture because the people were terrified that people traveling through were only coming to take advantage of them or take someone for human trafficking or slavery.  It took us days to emotionally process what we had seen.  The “darkness” in that place was overwhelming and all we were doing was driving through, those poor people were living in it!

I say all of that to say that if you have ever experienced a time where you could feel the spiritual battle going on or you have had a “dark day” or been in a “dark place”, allow that to burden your heart for those who live in it!  Allow God to burden your heart for those who don’t know Him!  We live in a world full of darkness, where wrong is right and right is wrong and people seem to only want to use God’s word for what suits them.  They don’t want to hear scripture about abortion or homosexuality and sexual immorality, but they will throw out scripture all day about being kind.  All scripture is good and it is from God, but we are not in the position to choose, we are to live by it all!

Let’s take more time to focus on praying for those who don’t know Him!  Pray that He will reveal Himself to them and free them from that bondage!  Pray for those you love who are living in sin by choice.  We all know someone who is choosing to live in sin even though they know what is right.  Let’s also choose today to walk in His light as He is in the light so we can be the shining example He has created us to be!  The best is yet to come!
