Isaiah 48:7
Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, The Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go.”
Have you ever ridden a stubborn horse? I pretty much grew up with horses so I have ridden a variety of somewhat crazy animals at times and some sweet wonderful obedient animals as well. I remember riding with one of my friends one day as an adult and she had horses for the first time in her life so she loved to spoil them which sometimes was ok but not when you are out on a trail. She had been allowing them to eat along the way when she would go for a ride and on this day she was seeing the pitfalls to that concept. We would be riding along at a nice pace and the horse would reach over and strip a branch of all of it’s leaves and about fall over. My shoulders were so sore from fighting her horse the entire ride to keep it focused on where we were going and waiting to eat, I felt like I had been through a major work out. When we got back to the corral and we took their saddles and bridles off I called her over to show her what eating with a bridle on was doing to her horses mouth. Both horses had sores on the insides of their mouths because of the rubbing and trying to eat with a bit in their mouths on top of the fact that a ride that could have been relaxing and about 45 min. long turned into a battle of wills and 1 hour and 15 min. long which was more time than we really had to take, it was not an enjoyable ride.
I said all of that to ask you this: are you trying to act like that spoiled horse and have everything along the way and do your own thing as you claim to “follow God’s plan” or are you allowing Him to guide you while you focus on learning what He is trying to teach you along the way? Sometimes we fight God so hard on the path to victory wanting without waiting and following and it takes so much longer to get to our reward. It is really as simple as giving your will to God and telling Him that you will be obedient and ask Him to show you when you step out of line so He can keep you on the right track.
God wants to teach you to profit as you go along life’s path but that is tough to do if you are always fighting to have your own way. If we aren’t careful we can end up with scars just like those horses from taking what we want along the way and causing ourselves unnecessary pain. It is a choice to submit to God and allow Him to lead you in the way you need to go and trust me the path to victory can be a sweeter and shorter ride if you just give Him control!
