Ezra 7:10
For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel.

Let me encourage you today to give yourself a gift. It is quite simple really, I have mentioned this a long time ago but felt like I needed to share it again. When you read your Bible and I hope you do on a regular basis, when a verse stands out to you, underline it and put a date and or a note next to it. I cannot tell you how many times I have been reading through my Bible and I have come across a date or note that I left from before that has reminded me of where I was at that time and how God brought me through or ministered to me through that verse.

God told the Israelites over and over how important it was to tell the stories of the victories they had and all they had been through to remind them and their children of who God is. It is amazing how much it helps when you can look back and think on things you have faced and you are reminded of how God brought you through. We so often want a quick fix to our problems, trust me I am the chief offender for that, but when you can look back and you can see even the daily victories you had because of a simple verse of encouragement that God gave you and then you see dates for victories, you realize that you can make it through whatever you are facing today!

God has quite the history of being a God who cares, who delivers and encourages and saves. Start creating your own “history path” so you can personalize all that is in His word for yourself. It is great to read about the victories of people in the Bible but it is amazing when you have dates marked along side theirs that remind you that He is a God of today as well and He is as much there for you as He was anyone in the Bible. Make that a goal over the next year to read your Bible on a regular basis and to begin your “history path” and see a year from now as you flip through your Bible what all God has done.(no, don’t wait for New Years) Don’t get discouraged, you may not get a verse every day, I don’t, that is not the goal, the goal is to open your heart and mind and allow God’s word to soak in and then those verses you get become milestones of growth and victory in your life.
