Colossians 4:2, Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful, and thankful.
That’s a pretty simple verse. Devote yourselves to prayer! Do you take prayer seriously or is it just a formality that you do before a meal and maybe before bed, or when you find yourself in desperate need of God’s help? Prayer is communication with The God of all! Why would we ever want to miss out on that opportunity?
Prayer changes the person praying as well, so if you are serious about growing in your walk with God spending time alone with Him talking and listening to Him is where to begin. Prayer is not just about coming up with a list of things you need Him to do in your life and the lives of those around you. You don’t probably communicate with your friends that way. Prayer is talking to Him. Pouring your heart out and asking Him to guide you and to give you a heart like His. Prayer can sometimes just be sitting there in silence allowing Him to speak to your heart or just resting in His presence. And yes, prayer is a time to pour you heart out about those things that we need Him to do in our lives, the lives of those we love, the lives of those we need to forgive, our leaders in our countries and around the world.
Prayer is so simple and sometimes we make it so difficult that we give up. When your children are first learning to talk to you, you don’t expect them to word everything just right in order to receive what they need. You don’t look at a toddler and say, “No, I’m sorry, but until you can say, ‘May I have a glass of water please’, you can’t have any.” No! They may come to you and say, “UH!” and point and you are so excited that they are trying to communicate that you jump to get things until you figure out what it is, ‘uh’ meant! God gets excited when you want to spend time with Him in prayer as well. Yes, He is a holy God and He wants us to strive to grow up in Him and allow Him to fill us so we can live Godly lives as well, but you have to start somewhere! No more excuses! Talk to Him and share with Him any issues you have with praying! Allow Him to work in your life! Allow Him to help you grow in your prayer life!
If you are a prayer warrior then let’s face it, we could pray all day and not touch the surface of all that needs to be prayed about these days! The world has gone crazy! We could argue with crazy all day, but the best thing to do is pray! We need to devote ourselves to prayer and we need to be watchful for what God is trying to show us and thankful that He is still on His throne and He sees and He cares and He wants to hear from us!
Let’s all come together as an army of Prayer Warriors determined to make a difference in the world by spending more time on our knees! In order to do that you must schedule a time to pray, even if you start with 5 minutes. Get alone with God and don’t allow satan to rob you of the time. If you don’t schedule it, you will find that at the end of the day you missed it! Schedule it now and determine that it is one of the most important things you can do today! Ask Him for His wisdom, truth, and love to consume you and all that you do. Trust Him, that truly His best is yet to come!
