Do Your Part And Have Confidence That God Will Do The Rest

1 Kings 18:30 – 33 Then Elijah said to all the people, “Come near to me.” And all the people came near to him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that had been thrown down. Elijah took twelve stones according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord came saying, “Israel shall be your name,” and with the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord.

There had been no rain for three years because the Lord brought on famine because Israel was sinning against Him by serving Baal. God told Elijah to go to King Ahab and tell him that it was going to rain. Elijah had challenged the prophets of Baal to see whose God was the true God by setting up a sacrifice and asking for fire to come from the god they were serving to consume the sacrifice. Obviously nothing came from Baal but before Elijah prayed for God to send fire to consume his sacrifice he set things in order out of respect and honor to God.

Is there something in your life that you have been praying about that you need God to move quickly on? Maybe you feel as though God has told you that He will take care of it but you just don’t feel as though He is moving at all yet. Does your marriage need healing, or your finances, are your children going their own way, or could it be your job or lack of one? Whatever it is, have you set things in order that you need to set in order to honor God?

If it is your marriage you are praying for, have you done your part? Are you honoring God with your attitudes and behaviors toward your spouse? Have you set some boundaries so you are not talking with the opposite sex about what is going on between you and your spouse? Have you not only prayed for your spouse but that God will help you to love them the way you are supposed to and that He will show you what you need to do as well to make things work?

Are your finances stressing you out? Have you set in order all that you have the ability to set in order? Have you made a list of all that is due each month so that you know what needs to be paid before you do other things? Dave Ramsey has a great course to help you with your finances if you need some help. Believe me, I know you can do all these things and end up really frustrated and anxious if there isn’t as much money coming in as there is to go out! There is no way to plan though if you don’t begin by knowing what you need to pay! Don’t bury your head in the sand and try to ignore the issue hoping it will go away (I’ve tried that ~ it just gets worse!). Do your part and then pray and expect God to do the rest!

Whatever you may be facing today let me encourage you to seek God, do your part and then pray with the confidence that He will take care of the rest. Matthew 6:23 says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Quote: “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” Theodore Roosevelt
