Don’t Allow Distractions To Get In The Way

by | Dec 9, 2019

Nehemiah 6:3-4  And I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down.  Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you/“  And they sent to me four times in this way, and I answered them in the same manner.

Don’t allow other people or things distract you from what God is calling you to do!  You may receive offers to do other things, and there may not be anything wrong with those things except for the fact that it is distracting you or pulling you away from what God has called you to do!  Pay attention, because satan will do all he can to get you away from what God is calling you to do!  He may lure you with good things or favors to someone, but keep your eyes set on your call!

There are some people who will work hard, walking hand in hand with satan due to jealousy or maybe even hatefulness, at trying to hold you back!  It reminds me of my first day in kindergarten……… yeah, that was a while ago!  Anyhow, I was a tiny little thing when I headed out for school but I was growing up on a farm and could hold my own.  We were sent outside to play on the playground before the day began so none of us knew each other yet.  There were a couple of other little girls out there and one of them didn’t want to leave the top of the tallest slide as I was climbing up the ladder and her twin sister told her to hurry up and slide down because she was headed for the swings.  Jan’s response was, “no, I am going to keep this little girl off the slide!”  Julie said, “she must be in kindergarten too or she wouldn’t be here!”  It starts early in life!  Too funny!  But here’ the point of that little story; Jan didn’t think I should be on the slide and yet what she didn’t realize was that I was older than she was!  I was perfectly capable and there wasn’t much that was going to hold me back in those days, thank goodness for Julie, the peacemaker!  Jan thought she knew what was best or maybe felt the need to exercise some sort of “authority” now that she was in kindergarten, but in my mind, she wasn’t going to keep me from what I knew I could do.  Ohhhh, silly kids, we were!  I miss those girls!  We were together from kindergarten through our Senior year of high school and we shared a lot of life together.  Crazy as it seems ladies, there are still people who will try to hold you back no matter what your age or call is!  Hold your ground!  There are people who won’t think you can do what God is calling you to do or they may be jealous, but whatever the case may be, don’t let them hold you back!

Have you ever read about putting a mess of crabs in a bucket?  If you only put one in the bucket, more than likely it could climb out, but when you put more in the bucket they will pull each other down as they try to climb out!  Some people are like that in life as well!  Don’t allow anyone to hold you back from your call!

(If you are the one who is doing there best to hold someone back from God’s plan for their life, I would be very careful if I were you!)

Go after what God is calling you to do with all you’ve got!  Ask Him to help you discern what you need to do and to recognize when someone or something is trying to pull you away from that!  Keep your eyes fixed on Him and ask Him to reveal to you any distractions.  Distractions are not always things that appear to be obviously bad, they may be “good opportunities”!  Pray for God’s wisdom for your life and the path you need to take and then, just like Nehemiah, don’t allow anyone to distract you from it!  Hold your ground and pray for God’s strength to defend your call.  The best is yet to come!
