Don’t Allow Satan to Distract You From What You Should Be Doing

Nehemiah 6:3
And I sent messengers to them saying, “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you?

In this case Nehemiah knew that Sanballat and Tobiah were planning to do him harm, they were not just trying to stop the word of God, but what is Satan trying to use on you to distract you from doing what you are supposed to be doing?

It is easy these days to get distracted, let’s face it, life moves at such a fast pace most of the time with so much to do that it is easy to lose focus. Satan will use anything, whether it is good or bad to keep you from doing the will of God:

You can get so busy doing everything that you are missing what God has planned. I have to watch myself or I can see so many things that need to be done for God that I find myself too busy to focus on what I am called to do. I remember when my preachers wife pulled me aside years ago when my children were little to tell me that I was doing too much in the church! Yeah, I know, how often is that the complaint of a pastor or his wife or staff, but I was! She reminded me that there were many other people in the church who needed to serve and as long as they saw that I did the bus ministry with my husband, was in charge of Junior church and taught it and was in charge of the nursery and sang in the choir, oh yeah and worked in AWANA all while I was homeschooling my children at home, they weren’t going to volunteer to help on any level! I loved what I was doing and I put my heart and soul into absolutely everything and it was all going quite well surprisingly enough, but ………. I was standing in the way of others using the gifts God gave them. I was spreading myself too thin! No matter how well I felt things were running I was doing too much! They were good things, but it wasn’t right! It wasn’t right for my family that I was that involved and it wasn’t right for the people of the church that I was doing everything and running everything. At the time, at first, I wasn’t real happy with her for saying that, but then I realized she was right, I was wrong to feel as though I was the only one that could fill all of those positions, I had small children and a family that I needed to focus on. When other women started taking over and filling those positions it was awesome to see their enthusiasm and no, they didn’t do it my way, but it all worked and many more people were able to serve and I was able to focus on just a few things and my family!

A big thing I have to watch out for is to allow the struggles of life keeping me from doing what I am called to do. Be careful that you aren’t so consumed with what is going wrong or has gone wrong to keep you from doing what is right and what you are called to do! Satan loves to get you so consumed with your struggle that you can’t focus on what you are called to do. He loves to get you so wrapped up in your finances that you can’t think about anything else! He loves to get you so caught up in what is wrong with your marriage that you can’t see any way of God working things out! Maybe he has you so focused on the fact that you aren’t married you can’t see what He has called you to that would fulfill you right here, right now! If you find yourself distracted by any of these things today, stop for a moment and ask yourself if that is what you are called to? Are you called to spend every waking minute fussing over your financial situation or are you called to set those things down before God and ask for His wisdom and guidance? God has the answers to your financial stress!

Are you called to focusing on all those negative things your spouse is doing or are you called to focus on your call and give those things over to God. If your marriage is struggling find a Christian friend or counselor to talk to about it but then give it all to God. Ask God for direction and follow His leading. There are times that unfortunately it just isn’t going to work and there are times He may be telling you to stay and allow Him to work in the other persons life for a season! Listen to Him! Let Him lead you! Whatever you do though, don’t miss what you are supposed to be doing for Him on a regular basis because of the negative! I know that can be easier said than done, but if you pray and give it all to God, He will make a way! Don’t allow satan to distract you from your call and from working things out God’s way.

I would encourage you today to ask God what it is you aren’t giving to Him that Satan is using to keep you from God’s best and God’s will for your life! We get distracted when we hold on to areas of our life that we aren’t willing to allow God to control. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and get busy doing God’s plan. Stop thinking you are the only one who can do everything in order for it to be done “right”. God has a way to work out every detail, it may not be your way but in the end does that really matter as long as His will is done! Give it all to Him and let go! Follow God’s lead and don’t allow Satan to distract you another moment! The best is yet to come!
