Romans 12: 1-2. I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Sometimes it seems as though we think that “the Will of God” for our lives is an event or some mysterious intangible object. We tell our children to “find the will of God’ for their lives. It seems as though we often tend to think that we should all know the will of God for our lives by the time we are 18. And sometimes we make it sound as though, that is it! You figure out what God wants you to do with the rest of your life and get started doing it by going to college or joining the military or heading to the mission field, but that really isn’t it! We set that image up for people and then if they go to college and for some reason, they have to stop after a year, they begin to flounder thinking maybe they have missed it! Or they think they missed the will of God because they didn’t know what it was when they graduated High School! Seriously? Or they aren’t called because they aren’t doing ministry ~ really? Where do these ideas come from? I understand what the goal is with this concept, but I feel as though sometimes is sets us up for disappointment. God’s timing isn’t always our timing and His school for how you or your child may need to learn might not be the one you are desperately trying to get in to! There may be life experiences that will teach more than books for now and the books will come in good time or it may just be a different school. Ask Him!
The will of God for your life actually begins when you accept Him as your Savior! The will of God for your life or your children’s lives is to daily, by the mercy of God, present yourself/themselves to God, totally without reserve so that you can know what His will for your day is! Yes, there are times to plan and go to college, etc., but the way to know the when, where and how of all of that is by submitting daily to Him. The will of God isn’t one big thing, it is a daily thing!
Maybe you are like me and right now there are days when just looking at one more offer of something for me to do on a daily basis is overwhelming! I just saw an ad that says, “Transform your prayer life in 4 minutes a day”, sounds great, but I have a tendency to grab on to everything I see at times that could bring about improvement in my life. So, I have to stop some days and ask myself when I see something new if that is what I am supposed to be doing right now! Do I really have time to fit something new in? Sometimes we fill our lives to the brim with so much that we wouldn’t see the Will of God for our day if it were a train and running us over!
Today I would like to encourage all of us to just “Be Still and know that He is God!” and ask for His wisdom about what needs to stay and what needs to go! Let’s simplify and focus on what His will is for our day! Forget about what seems pressing and submit completely to Him. Listen…….shhhhhhh…..what is He trying to tell you? We often complain because we don’t seem to get an answer from Him, but are we too busy to see it? Take some time today to seek Him and His will for your everyday life. You will be amazed that if you do today what He is asking you to do, His will becomes your life, not just a job or ministry and that is what He is asking for. He wants all of you every day! His will for your life isn’t way out there in the distance, it’s today! What will you do with your today? Will you submit the entire thing to Him or is there something you are holding back? Is there a sin you are struggling with? Give it to Him, one day at a time! Confess and make things right and allow Him to guide you day by day into all He has planned for your life! The best is yet to come when you follow Him each and every day of our life!
