1 Samuel 23: 1-3
Now they told David, “Behold the Philistines are fighting against Keilah and are robbing the threshing floors.” Therefore David inquired of the Lord, “Shall I go and attack these Philistines?” And the Lord said to David, “Go and attack the Philistines and save Keilah.” But David’s men said to him, “Behold, we are afraid here in Judah; how much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?”
David and his men were actually running from King Saul who was trying to kill them at this time, so that is why his men were stating that they were already living in fear, why would they go out looking for a fight somewhere else? I understand where they are coming from; if you are already running for your life, why would you want to run to fight to save the lives of others? That is one of the reasons David was truly a man after God’s heart; no matter what he was facing or what was going on around Him, He believed God, He trusted Him with every part of His life and He followed Him and kept His eyes on Him even when His life was in danger!
Whatever you are facing today, I would like to encourage you to keep your eyes on God. We always say that but this time let’s take it a little deeper than just keeping your eyes on Him for His deliverance. Keep your eyes on Him so you don’t miss an opportunity to serve Him while you are going through this storm! Being a godly, empowered woman doesn’t mean you are just surviving the storm, it means you are thriving in that storm. It means you are always open to serving Him on whatever level He is calling you to. Serving Him during the storms in life can often be a great distraction from all that you are facing! If you can take your eyes off what you are dealing with in order to serve Him, it gives you a break from your struggle. Life is full of struggles and they can either consume you to the point you are not able to focus on anything else or you can press forward to the goals ahead instead. Trust me, I have faced a lot of crazy things in life and the times I came out ahead were those times I fully trusted Him and focused on Him instead of the struggle.
It is easier said than done to keep your focus on where you are going versus where you are, but you will be more successful in every area of your life if you do. It is so easy to get consumed with the garbage going on around you, trust me I know, but that garbage will rob you of your hope and joy if you focus on just that. Do what you can in your situation and then give it over to God and focus on His call and service ~ that is when you will see that the best is yet to come! God will see you through!
