Numbers 14:4
And they said to one another “Let us choose a leader and go back to Egypt.”

How quickly we seem to forget sometimes. The Israelites came to the “Promised Land” and I am not sure if they were expecting to just walk in and for there to be no battles or what but instantly they wanted to go back to their slavery. In Exodus 3:7 it says, “Then the Lord said, “ I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, I know their sufferings, and I have come to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians.”

God delivered them from all that they were complaining about in Egypt and took them to a land that was blessed with abundance all they needed to do was follow Him and trust Him to clear the land of their enemies. How often are we like that? God has a plan and it will not be without battles and there may be giants in the land that He has taken you to but if you will just allow Him to lead you and if you will just remain faithful and obedient the abundance of the land He has brought you to will be yours! His plan is as it says in Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Trust Him. The Israelites spent another 40 years in the wilderness wandering around because they didn’t trust that God would do all that He said He would do.

What are you facing today? Are you feeling as though it was easier before you began this journey? What has God given you to do and you are wondering if you should have just stayed in Egypt? Has He delivered you from an addiction of drugs, sex, anger, or something else that Satan was using to hold you back and now you are thinking it would be easier to go back than to face the struggles or battles ahead? Has He given you a call on your life that you are now facing wondering “why?” Are you facing struggles with your children or spouse that seem too overwhelming to face? Please let me encourage you that the true blessings of God are on the other side! God will fight your battles for you if you will just trust Him and allow Him to guide your every step. He is not sending you in to allow you to be defeated, He is sending you in to show His mighty hand and to bring you through to the other side stronger, more faithful and better than you were before. He wants to show you great things but you have to trust Him. Don’t see this as terrible see it as a chance to watch God work in and through you in a mighty way!

The land (your call) may look frightening, there may be giants but He has brought you here for great victory in every area of your life. He knows what lies ahead and He is faithful and that is all He is asking you to be. Trust Him, hold on to His promises, put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:12-14), don’t believe Satan’s lies and walk in the confidence that God will deliver all that He has promised and truly the best is yet to come so hold on!

Thanks for the encouraging words. Patience is a fruit of the spirit and if I would have figured out the value of patience in conjunction with trusting in God a long time ago, I could have saved myself many trips back to Egypt (bad relationships, poor financial choices, wrong career choices). I’ve just started a new chapter in my life and this go round I’m following God’s plan!
This devotional helped me regain my focus on God and see the lies of the enemy, tempting me to go back to Egypt, back to my “own” old devices that fail every time. Thanks for reminding me to trust in “God’s” way, which may require patience, unlike my “own” way.
