1 Samuel 23:12 Then said David, “Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul? “ And the Lord said, “They will deliver thee up.”
David was asking God this right after he had just saved the whole town from the Philistines. David’s life was full of people that would just throw him under the bus after he was faithful following the will of God and helping and serving them. There was very little loyalty it seems when David would put his neck on the line for others. I am sure this is part of the reason Jonathon Saul’s son was such a blessing to David because he had David’s back and loved him and was very loyal to David. No matter what though David didn’t base his choices on others response or loyalty, maybe this is why he was considered a man after God’s own heart; he was faithful no matter what.
Do you have people like that in your life? You are there for them and you help them in any way you can and still when things get tough for you or you need someone to back you up they are long gone! It can get very frustrating because it is only natural to think that it shouldn’t work that way, but the more I read about David the more I see that is rarely the case.
So ladies, let’s check our motives for why we are doing things. Let’s set aside the hurt feelings and frustrations from someone not showing that they care as much as we do and look deeper into why we are doing what we are doing. If we are doing it for the “return” then we are doing it all for the wrong reason. Our motives must purely be God driven so we can still get the answers we need when as David found, no one else is there to pick up the slack in our lives. David didn’t waste time getting angry and frustrated with the men of Keilah although I am sure he wasn’t happy with them, he needed to hear from God so he would know whether or not to flee the situation.
I would encourage you today to continue to do the right thing where others are concerned and leave their attitudes and responses to God but cling to God so you can hear His voice to continue to guide you for your sake! Let your motives toward others be guided solely on what the Lord tells you to do, don’t let their response in your time of difficulty get you off track.

So thankful I read this, shocking how close this is to the way I have been thinking.
