Don’t Lose Your Focus

Luke 1:30-33, But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.  You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.  He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.  The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; His kingdom will never end.”

As we move forward toward Christmas this year, let’s not forget Who we are celebrating!    What greater opportunity is there to share the birth of Jesus than Christmas.  It is the perfect time to be able to share the gospel with your children, friends, and family.  We should share Him all year round but let’s face it people everywhere are celebrating the holiday that is supposed to be all about Him whether they realize it or not, so let’s share the truth with them. Now, before we go any further, maybe Christmas isn’t a holiday that you celebrate, it is always still a good time to shine His light and to tell others about Jesus!

Today is the infamous “Black Friday” in America and well, it is a brutal shopping day more often than not.  I personally don’t go for that very reason.  It amazes me that people can go shopping and lose all sense of kindness and courtesy as they fight over items they want to buy like somehow their life depends on having that thing.  Seriously, how crazy is that?  The fact that people are willing to trample other people and fight over things in a store to buy gifts to celebrate the birth of Jesus is insane!

The birth of Jesus should be a huge deal to us and we should be eager to share the story of His birth, His life, and His death and resurrection with everyone!  Their future depends on hearing about Him.  Satan is fighting to keep them out of heaven, we must determine to allow God to use us to help them see the truth!

What tradition needs to go from your home or what do you need to add in order to keep your focus on Him.  Maybe you don’t need to change a thing.  Maybe you could add the reading of the Christmas story to your day.  I would just encourage you to open your heart and mind and ask God to guide you as you celebrate the birth of His son.  Make sure He doesn’t get set aside for traditions that have nothing to do with Him.

God loves us so much and remembering Him in all that we do is so important.  There are too many people out there who are desperate for His love and they don’t even realize it.  They have no idea that there is hope.  We live in a lost and dying world and we have a great opportunity to shine His light, let’s not miss that opportunity as we celebrate His birth!
