Judges 11: 7-8
But Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, “Did you not hate me and drive me out of my father’s house? Why have you come to me now when you are in distress?” And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, “That is why we have turned to you now, that you may go with us and fight against the Ammonites and be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”
There’s nothing like brutal honesty. They didn’t even apologize saying how wrong they were to kick him out they just said, “yup, that’s why we are here, we need you now.” Have you ever been in that situation where you feel as though someone has done you wrong but when they decide they need you they don’t even seem to feel any remorse for how they have behaved toward you all they know is they need you now so it doesn’t really matter.
There are many roads Jephthah could have taken with this because he could have turned his back on them and sided with their enemies for revenge but he chose the more godly route and did what he knew God would have him do. Jephthah obviously didn’t allow the fact that they threw him out to make him bitter and destroy his walk with God even though he had a bunch of worthless fellows that followed him in the land of Tob (11:3) I am sure there were things in his life he could have done differently just like the rest of us but he didn’t turn his back on God and God restored him and made him the leader of the very people that threw him out of his father’s house.
Have you ever felt as though you were the ‘low man on the totem pole’? Have you felt as though you are the “least of these” when it comes to the people around you or your family? God loves to use people like you! God uses those who are willing to be used and those who need to rely on Him for all they do for Him. It is difficult to use someone who thinks they have it all together and they are self sufficient not needing God for much.
God loves you and wants to use you in ways that will absolutely blow your mind. Don’t allow what others say and do to stop you! Don’t get bitter over things that have been said and done to you in the past – let it go! Sort out what is really important and focus on God and allow Him to work in your heart and life so you are not bitter over things of the past so you can be better used by Him. It didn’t matter where Jephthah came from God was more interested in where he was willing to go for God. How about you? Are you willing to let go of all you are frustrated and angry about and focus on God and what you can do for Him in spite of it all? Don’t miss out on God’s best for you today because of someone else’s ignorance or lack of walk with God. Focus on God and what you are called to do for him let all of the frustration, anger, hurt and anxiety over everything else melt away in the background and give Him all you have today.
