Don’t Miss Out or Give Up On Prayer! We Need To Take It More Seriously!

1 Kings 8:28  Yet give attention to your servant’s prayer and his plea for mercy, Lord my God.  Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day.

Where does prayer fit into your daily schedule? Is it something that you just do before a meal or maybe randomly throughout your day, do you schedule time for it? I have experienced enough “life” over the years that I am at the point of doing all of the above. I am not sure why we have to learn to do that because it seems as though we would automatically be doing that when you really stop and think about how powerful prayer is! I think one of the biggest issues I had with learning this was because of the fact I always thought that I needed someone else to pray too or nothing would happen. Now, looking back over some of the incredible answers to prayer God has given me that doesn’t make an ounce of sense, a couple of examples:

1)There was a time when my son was around 18 months old, my husband was going to Bible School and we were broke and we had eaten enough Mac & Cheese to make anyone sick of it. We had come home from church that Sunday evening and I told my husband there was just no way I could eat it again and we needed to pray for pizza! So we sat at the table and prayed and then my son had his bath and we got his PJs on so he could go to bed shortly after we ate. A couple of minutes later there was a knock on the door and my sister and her husband came in and we chatted for a bit and then they said, “you may think we are a little crazy but we were going to eat a pizza and we just felt like we needed to bring it over and share it with you!” We didn’t HAVE to have it, but God heard that prayer and blessed us with it!

2) Then the night I accidentally locked myself out of the house and didn’t know it until the people who had just dropped me and my children off after church one Wednesday evening had left. It was pitch dark, the sky was cloudy so there were no stars or moon, and there were no street lights because we lived in the middle of nowhere and the landlord lived 1/4 – 1/2 mile down that dirt road. It was the kind of dark that you can feel! I could barely see a few steps in front of me and thoughts of all of the wild animals there could be out there didn’t help a bit. I had heels on, of all things, and a 5-year-old, a 2-year-old, and an infant. We didn’t have cell phones, I didn’t have a flashlight… I prayed all the way down that driveway and told God I was going to need him to help me see because it was so dark out. When I stepped out onto that dirt road the moon peeked through a hole in the clouds that was just big enough for it and believe me, we didn’t dawdle I can tell you that! We got to their house and we all got in his car and as he pulled out on the road he asked, “how on earth did you see to be able to walk all that way? It is pitch black out here!” I told him about the moon and he replied, “ahhh God!”

God cares about it all and He alone can do what we can’t, but as the Bible also says in James chapter 4, “you have not because you ask not.” About 4 years ago I decided I needed to have a room designated for prayer. I wanted to learn to really take prayer more seriously. As silly as it may sound to need a “room” it helped me tremendously. Right now, it is the huge closet I have that is my prayer room. It doesn’t matter where it is or how big it is, it is a matter of having a place where you can get alone with God. If you haven’t watched the movie “War Room” you are missing out. I love that movie!

I want to share a quote with you from the book What Happens When Women Pray: “An occult high priest was quoted in our local newspaper as saying that the churches of America have given up the supernatural.  They don’t deal in the supernatural; they just deal in plans and programs and social activities.  He said that every human being is created with a supernatural vacuum, and since Christians aren’t doing anything in the realm of the supernatural he feels that witchcraft is a reasonable substitute for Christianity.”

Wow!  If that doesn’t move you to pray, I don’t know what will!  We are called to pray!  We have access to the Throne of God!  Ladies, I don’t know about you but that stirs up something inside me that says, “not today satan!”  Today I will take my prayer time seriously and today I will go boldly to my Father in Heaven and I will do battle in the spiritual realm for myself, my family, friends, churches and country, and everyone and everything else God brings to my mind!  This is war!  Being a prayer warrior isn’t just for the little old lady down the street, it is for you!

Let’s take the challenge today!  Let’s raise up an Army of people praying as God moves in our hearts!  Pray for God to bring revival and change!  Pray for those victories that you gave up on a long time ago! Whatever it is that is on your heart I would encourage you to not give up.  Determine today, that you will get intentional about your time alone with Him then we can know that truly His best is yet to come!
