Ephesians 4: 26-27
“Be angry and do not sin, do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil.”
We all get angry at times, but when you get angry do you have control over it or does it have control over you? God gets angry, Jesus got angry, so we know it is a natural emotion but it is one that still requires self control and we still need to be able to handle it in a way that does not destroy our testimony.
Anger, more often than not, stems from hurt and hurt that hasn’t been dealt with will smolder into burning anger. You cannot run from your emotions, but you must face them and deal with what has caused them. God gave us our emotions, they are very normal and a natural response but that doesn’t mean we allow our emotions to rule us. You don’t want your emotions to become your identity ~ woohoo, she is an angry woman, or oh dear, that girl just boohoos over everything bless her heart. Let’s work on being known as women who are known for having godly character, self control and a woman who isn’t all over the place emotionally because they run her instead of the Holy Spirit.
The reason for not allowing the sun to go down on your anger is because it will fester over night (you know it does) and it will keep you awake, then you wake up not only angry but too tired to think straight and voila! The Devil jumps in to really mess up the day! Take it to God, it isn’t always possible to resolve your anger with the one you are angry with, sometimes because they aren’t there or maybe they aren’t the type of person who will work through it with you. You have to discern whether or not it is best to work it out with who you are angry with or if you need to just go to God and pour your heart out and allow Him to soothe your anger and be your refuge and deliverer. There are so many times when the best thing to do is to learn to give it to God and leave it there and trust Him to deliver you from that situation or that person ~ trust me He will take care of it!
As it says in Ephesians 6:10-20, “we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over the present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil int eh heavenly places.” And as we read on in those verses we need to put on God’s armor in order to fight them off. If you allow satan to get in by wanting to be angry for a while he will make the biggest mess you have ever seen! That is his specialty, don’t do it, don’t give him the opportunity to mess you up like that! Take it to God and reject the lies of satan so you can move forward and be all you can be for Him!
