Focus On Becoming All He Created You To Be

Matthew 23: 27-28. “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisee, hypocrites!  For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness.  So you also outwardly appear righteous to others, but within you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.”

God is more concerned about what is on the inside than He is what you look like to others!  He wants your heart!  Jesus was so frustrated with the scribes and Pharisees because all they cared about was what other people thought of them.  They wanted to make sure that they were in the highest of positions and that they were thought to be the “most holy” of people and yet they were far from it!  Does it really matter what other people think of you if God sees your heart and knows that you have no desire to really follow Him?  Which is going to matter in eternity ~ what others thought of you for the few years you were on earth or how God sees your heart?

I am all for taking care of ourselves and looking our best, but the inner beauty is what will shine the brightest and is the most important.  When Samuel was at Jesse’s house (David’s father) ready to anoint one of his sons to be king God told him in 1 Samuel 16:7, ”Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him.  (Talking about David’s brother Eliab)  For the Lord sees not as man sees; man looks on the outward appearance but the Lord looks on the heart.”  So, if you are feeling down today because you don’t feel as though you measure up, don’t worry about what someone else may think of you, it is who God says you are that matters.  No one thought it was David who would be anointed, King!  They left David out in the field to care for the sheep, they didn’t even bother to have him come when Samuel called them all.  Remember; when others see a “shepherd boy” ~ God may see a King!  Don’t underestimate your calling because of what others may think or say!  Remember the great words of Eleanor Roosevelt, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent!”  So focus on who God says you are and what He has called you to and shut out the noise of those who would like you to think less!  Concern yourself with what is in your heart and that will shine through!  Be all you are called to be!

There are way too many people these days who are only worried about what others think and not what God knows about them and then they get angry when God decides to reveal the truth!  I love the quote:  “Reputation is what others think about you; character is what God knows about you.” (Adrian Rogers)  Once again though, the question is…… “which will matter in the long run?

I would encourage you today to strive to be all God has created you to be regardless of what others may think or say.  If your heart has been headed in the wrong direction decide today that you are going to turn that around and confess to God and those you have wronged so you have a clean and right heart with God and those you love and then leave the past behind and be all you were created to be for Him!  His best is yet to come!

Quote: “Each of us will one day be judged by our standard of life, not by our standard of living; by our measure of giving, not by our measure of wealth; by our simple goodness, not by our seeming greatness.”  William Arthur Ward
