Acts 12: 6-7
Now when Herod was about to bring him out, on that very night, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood next to him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him, saying, “Get up quickly.” And the chains fell off his hands.

Herod has just killed James just before he had Peter arrested. Herod was so full of himself that he even got great pleasure doing anything that made people happy with him, so when he saw that the Jews were excited that he had killed James he wanted to continue with Peter and anyone else he could get his hands on. So here Peter was, in prison, facing certain death in the morning, bound in chains, more than likely beaten because they took so much pleasure in beating everyone they got their hands on in that day and he was sleeping so soundly that the angel had to poke him in the side to wake him up! He didn’t even wake up when the light filled the cell!

I don’t know about you, but when something is bothering me and I am stressed out, I don’t always seem to sleep all that well! My brain seems to kick in the moment I get a chance to lie down to go to sleep and if I don’t shut it off, all the Melatonin in the world wouldn’t get me to sleep! Peter was facing death! Girl, there are times that troubles in your marriage or with your children, or maybe the lack of a spouse or your finances, or the stress of a job or lack of one may seem like death is coming, but more than likely it isn’t!

Peter slept! He didn’t just sleep, he slept soundly! Do you wonder how he managed that? It goes back to this: Isaiah 26:3, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” It is all about keeping your mind fixed on God! No matter what you are facing today, even if you are battling a physical illness that seems hopeless, God is in control. God can bring healing in every area of your life! We don’t believe Him enough these days for miracles! He is the God of hope, The God of all creation! Nothing is too difficult for the Lord! Trust Him, ask Him for the faith you lack! Believe in Him enough to believe for miracles! He is still on His throne and we seem to do Him a huge disservice by not believing in Him for miraculous things! (Please don’t attach a “name it and claim it” thought process here, because that is not what I am saying, but I think we are so afraid of that idea that we discard the whole idea of God providing and doing miracles in our lives!)

God loves you and wants you to have His perfect peace in your life! He wants you to be able to sleep at night like Peter did, regardless of all that is going on around you because He is the only one who can really do anything about it! He wants you to be able to get on with your day even though things aren’t the way they should be! He wants to fill you with His peace and love, He wants you to trust Him! I remember when I was a single Mom and I was trying to figure everything out, finances, how to not allow my divorce to ruin my children’s lives, the stress of my job……… and there were many times that I would tell myself, “I can’t think about it right now, I will think about it tomorrow. After all…… tomorrow is another day!” (One of my favorite movies is of course, “Gone With The Wind”). I did it so much that some people I worked with started calling me Scarlet, but it worked. I would just tell myself that if I had done what I could then I wasn’t going to think about it, I would just leave it to God and every time it came to mind I would just say, “no! I am not thinking about that!” and I would force myself to think about something else! It is a process, but you can train yourself to do what you can and leave the rest to God. You have to refuse Satan’s lies about your situation and replace them with God’s truth! You can do it! Trust Him with it all! Trust Him that the best is yet to come!
