Give It All You’ve Got

Nehemiah 6:3  And I sent messengers to them saying, “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down.  Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you?”

Satan will use whatever distraction he can to distract you from what God has called you to do.  He will try to use anything he knows might entice you whether that is fear of other people offering you another enticing offer.  Tobiah and Sandballot tried every tactic they could think of to get Nehemiah and the Jews to stop the rebuilding of Jerusalem and the temple but Nehemiah kept His eyes on God and all the work that they needed to accomplish.

When you are doing something that you know you are called to do, don’t allow the urgent issues of others to distract you.  Believe me, I am the Queen of doing that.  I love to serve others almost to a fault!  I was raised to serve, my Dad was quite spoiled in that area with our family, all he had to do was hold up his coffee cup and everyone, even grandchildren would run for the opportunity to fill it for him!  That may seem silly and yet I am grateful for the lessons it taught me about serving others, even though I may do it a bit to the extreme at times!  If you are serving to the point that you are missing out on doing what you are called to do then your serving is not of God.  We are called to serve others but not at the expense of what God has asked us to do!

Satan will often even use “well-meaning” Christian friends or leaders in your life to discourage you, unfortunately, from what you need to do.  In verses 10-14 of chapter 6 a prophet tried to not only talk Nehemiah into hiding but he tried to convince him to sin by entering the temple to do it.  Make sure that when you are faced with any decision that the answer lines up with the Word of God.  Take the time to pray about the advice that you are given by other people.  You have a right to know the will of God without other input from other people and when you know deep within your heart what God has told you to do, don’t let others discourage you or distract you from it!

Just keep in mind that just because you are doing what God has called you to do, things don’t always just fall into place because satan will do everything he can to fight it.  It will take work and it will take protecting your calling.  Sometimes he will even try to make you believe that what you are doing is insignificant and doesn’t really matter in the big scheme of things and that is just not true!  God has placed within you specific talents and desires to do what He has called you to do and there’s never an insignificant calling!

Don’t allow satan to discourage you today, do what you know to do and do it with all your heart! If you get confused just pray and ask God to reaffirm all that He has called you to do and then go with the confidence that He will give you the strength and wisdom to finish the job!
