God Is Not Sleeping

Psalm 121:3 and 8
He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.

I remember as a little girl feeling as though everything was ok once my Dad got home. I remember one night watching out the window during a snowstorm, the snow was coming down and the wind was blowing and at times you could barely see across the road from the house. I was waiting for him to get home because even though I wasn’t horribly upset, I was feeling edgy and just knew that I would feel safer once he was home. I’m not sure what I thought was going to happen if he had to stay in town, after all it was just snow, but in my mind life was just safer with him there.

As a Christian we can rest in the fact that our God is always present, He does not sleep or go on vacation. He is always with you, no matter where you are. While reading my devotions in the Old Testament I was really impressed with the fact that we now have the Holy Spirit residing with us on a personal level compared to the people back then who had to rely on the Ark of The Covenant. I believe we take that a bit too much for granted these days.

Just as I felt safer as a little girl in my Dad’s presence, we are safer in the presence of God. We need to choose to follow His will daily and rely fully on Him to provide the safety and victory we need on a daily basis. Let’s face it, even though He is with us we have the ability to shut His presence and influence in our lives down by doing our own thing and going our own way. The safest and most blessed place to be in life is walking life with Him, following His leading and trusting Him in all that we do!
