Genesis 24:6-8  “Make sure that you do not take my son back there,”  Abraham said.  “The Lord, the God of heaven, who brought me out of my father’s household and my native land and who spoke to me and promised me on oath, saying, ‘To your offspring I will give this land’ ~ He will send His angel before you so that you can get a wife for my son from there.  If the woman is unwilling to come back with you, then you will be released from this oath of mine.  Only do not take my son back there.”

Abraham took God’s promises seriously and he wasn’t about to take the chance of moving away from it.  It would only be natural if Isaac went back that their relatives would want him to stay there and family can be so persuasive sometimes.  Since the promise was made to Abraham he wasn’t willing to take the chance that his son would have to take the long way back to God’s promise.  Abraham not only had great faith he was obedient when it came to God’s promises and he was determined to protect his promise from God!

When God gives you a promise or a dream, satan will do his best to draw you away from it.  He will send other people and even other good opportunities to try to lure you away.  Protect the dreams and promises God has given you!  Don’t settle for something less!  Don’t allow what other people say to discourage you from what you know God is calling you to.  When God puts something in your heart, it is for you and other people won’t always understand it.  God gives each of something different to do and he has built us for exactly what He is calling us to do.  Don’t get caught up in what someone else is called to do and don’t let anyone else talk you out of what God is giving you to do!  Protect your calling and protect His promises!  Remember that satan is roaming about trying to find someone to devour, don’t let that someone be you.  Keep your guard up and put on that armor (Ephesians 6:10-18).  There’s a war going on, but God has promised victory if you will just stay close to Him and allow Him to guide you in all that you do!

Guard your children and what God has promised for them as well!  Just because everyone else is allowing their children to read certain books or watch certain tv shows or listen to certain music doesn’t mean you need to allow your children to.  Teach them to choose the best.  Garbage in/ garbage out!  For example:  do your kids know as many Bible verses as they do Harry Potter spells?  Which one do you want in your house?  Those spells may not work for your children because they aren’t worshipping satan, but why would you want words that are meant to summon demons spoken in your home?  Something to think about!  Another question I have is ~ why do comments about NOT reading those books make people so angry?  The thought of giving up a fiction book shouldn’t make you angry. A great series of books your children would probably love if they are the age that most are when they want to read Harry Potter is the series written by Priscilla Shirer, “Prince Warriors”. 

Anyhow, as it says in Proverbs 4:23, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”  If you guard your heart then you will recognize when satan is trying to rob you of your promises and dreams that God has for you.  If you are waiting for those things to come to pass trust Him, His timing is perfect and truly His best is yet to come.
