Hanging on His Words…

by | Jun 11, 2026

Luke 19:47-48, Every day He was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the leaders among the people were trying to kill Him. Yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on His words.

“The people hung on His words.” They defeated, at that time, what the leaders set out to do, kill Jesus, by clinging to His words.

Our greatest weapon against the enemy is the Word of God. Unfortunately, statistics show today that the majority of Christians don’t read the Bible. I was listening to a podcast the other day, and the woman being interviewed was a retired Secret Service Agent. She was talking about some of the training she had to go through that you wouldn’t ever really anticipate, like passing a course in Biology, well, not a course, they handed her a textbook and told her to read it because next week she would have a test on it. She thought: “It’s going to be open book for sure. There’s no way they expect me to memorize this textbook.” The next week, when she went in to take the test, she said, “Wait, you mean this is not an open-book test?” They said, “No, what did you think you were doing here?”

Life can be hard. While we do have the benefit of being able to open our Bibles that  God has so generously given us to find our answers, how much better will we handle what comes at us if we have been reading and studying them over and over? These verses don’t say that the people were saying much; they were “hanging on His Words!” They were so in awe that they just couldn’t get enough of His teaching, and they followed Him everywhere. The difference His Word can make, not only in our individual lives, but in the world around us, is monumental. His Word contains the answers that people who don’t know Him are seeking. Our Bible is the living, breathing Word of God and has the power needed to bring others to Him. Let’s determine to, each day, read a little more than we did the day before and see how God works in and through us!
